Which Cherry mx blue is quiter?
« on: Sun, 26 October 2014, 10:10:55 »
Hi there,

I was using Filco MJ Mx Blues a couple of years ago..still own it but don't use cause if the click clack..Last night, i tried my friends Razer gaming keyboard(Mx Blues) and found out that it is way quieter than my Filco...there was the click but no clack like my Filco..what is it? Maybe the board keycap hits is plastic or something? Or emits the noise better..not sure..

I would never use a Razer(don't like gaming keyboards..all the green colors sht..) So, do you know any other brands that may be quieter than Filcos? Maybe Rosewill or something?

btw: I tried red o-rings with my mx blues..didn't like the feel so i removed them.

Ehm Razer actually doesn't use the mx cherry switches so that could be a factor. I guess you can always lube the blues to make them not click but it requires a lot of work
Very busy with studies atm.

If by "clack" you mean the bottoming out sound, tt's probably due to the construction of your keyboard.

Ducky is a bit louder than Razer but still quieter than Filco.

PCB mount is the only 'quiet' blues. Without the plate to act like a big echo chamber it changes the sound characteristic a lot. Additionally use of thick keycap deepens the pitch of sound which may be less annoying to you and others. I suggest you to get some Cherry G80 board. You can often find them used for a good price especially on German ebay but will probably need someone to proxy ship to you as most seller refuse to ship out of Germany for some reason.

Sounds like you're describing a difference in bottom-out sound. The Filco is solidly constructed with very little give or absorption, so it makes sense that the bottom out is noisier. You say you didn't like the orings on your Filco, were they thick or thin? You can't tell just from the colour, there are thick and thin red ones. If thick, perhaps give thin ones a try. Or if you are interested in some modding work, desolder the switches and put a thin slice of oring in each switch inside the little tube (trampoline mod, 1mm or less should do the job with Blue switches). The advantage is you can adjust the feel by changing the material used and the thickness.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.
