Full size cherry stabilized non-led plate mounted keyboard
« on: Thu, 06 November 2014, 14:04:00 »
I'm looking for a keyboard like is in the description.  So far finding keyboard with these qualities is hard.  So my questions are:

1. I'm thinking that maybe buying a ducky shine 3 since finding non-led boards is so hard.  Are there any cons to buying a led board for non-led usage?
2. One board which fits this criteria is the ducky pro 9008, which has almost shored up in availability.  The pro of this board is that supposedly it comes with it's stabilizers clipped, which is a mod I would like to make.  Is this true?  A con with that board are the useless keys above the tenkey, which I won't have custom caps for.
3. Another board which fits the criteria is the IKBC F104.  Is this board on par in quality with the ducky?  One con about that board are numpad, caps & scroll lock leds, which are obtrusive.  Does this board come with clipped stabilizers?
4.  Is it possible to remove and install the stabilizers without soldering on a plate mount board?  If not, i probably can do the mod myself,  I'm a little bit scared that I will **** it up though.

Leopold FC500R. Full size, no weird keys, Cherry stabs. Only fly in the ointment is the spacebar stabilizers may be in non-standard spacing, ie closer to the switch than usual.

The CMStorm QuickFire XT is full size unbacklit, but it has Costar stabs.

WASD V2 and V2 barebones are also full size with no weird extra buttons but again, Costar stabs.

Rosewill RK-9000 same thing, Costar. Filco also.

Discovered a weird thing researching this... DAS keyboard 4 uses both. Cherry on spacebar, Costar on smaller keys. Yet another reason for me to not like 'em.

Deck and Ducky both have Cherry, but both have extra keys above the numpad and most of their ranges have backlighting.

I'd probably just get a Ducky Shine and not use the backlighting, but that leaves the extra keycaps issue... Sorry, this seems to be a tough thing to find.

For plate mounted Cherry stabs you may need to desolder the switch that sits between the stabs, although it could be possible to leave the wire "in place" when removing the stabs and twiddling it back into place with some tweezers or something when reinserting the stabs.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

The new ducky legend is full size with clipped cherry stabilizers (or more specifically redesigned cherry stabs without the need to clip) and no backlighting and it has an aluminum top case.

Probably too bulky for my tastes, and it has leds.  When is release date though?

Thanks. Not finding the FC500R w/ browns in stock anywhere though

Ooops what was I thinking. The legend can be found by going to this page https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/arrived.php

Maybe the Leopold FC900R it has nice thick pbt caps in a cherry like profile if you like those? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leopold-FC900R-Mechanical-Keyboard-104-Cherry-MX-Brown-PBT-Black-/271654953450

Thanks.  That legend board is just too bulky for me, is it this way to increase sturdiness? I'd guess these "new" stabilizers aren't anything unmissable, must be same feels as regular clipped.  This leopold seller doesn't ship to Iceland :(

I'm leaning towards this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/IKBC-F104-Mechanical-Keyboard-Cherry-MX-Brown-Switches-W-Double-Shooted-PBT-caps-/290981316673?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item43bfd68841

Would be nice if it would be available somewhere nearer Iceland so I could get it sooner though.  GMK dolch incoming real soon!

Cherry G80-3850 might be an option if the styling is agreeable to you.

Cherry G80-3850 might be an option if the styling is agreeable to you.

It's a decent board. Plate mounted, thick PCB, etc. But it has one major flaw:

The Caps Lock switch is in a completely non-standard position (doesn't match Cherry off-centre caps OR normal centre stemmed caps) which is a big oversight on their part IMHO. So you will not find a set of keycaps which will fit if you ever want to change or replace them.

It comes with nice low profile caps which I believe are made by Devlin, though, so the stock caps are good, but I assume the OP will want to swap caps at some point. He is getting GMK Dolch after all.

The IKBC F104 looks like a reasonable board. Plate mounted, interesting keycaps (doubleshot PBT), totally standard layout, Cherry stabilisers. It has multicolor full backlighting, but you don't need to turn it on. I'd say it's about your best option, really. Go for it.

I see it's being sold by Qtan! He has an account here on GH, so if you have any more questions about it you can probably PM him. :D

Forgot to mention, here is his Vendor sub-forum on GH: http://geekhack.org/index.php?board=81.0

Ah yes, I forgot about that on 3850... the caps lock switch has position as if it were a 1.5 units key.

So I'm the market for a board with extactly the same preferences since I busted the pcb on my ikbc 104, has any board emerged in meantime which covers all those factors or is buying the ikbc 104 again merely the way to go :D

I've found the Leopold FC900R to be an excellent keyboard and it also comes with very nice keycaps.

I actually have one and am typing on it now. :D

But I'm not sure the model I have comes with browns if that is what you are looking for again.  :-[

I don't care about switches at all actually since I will desolder them out for zealios.  Seems like the Leopold is only available from Tabao, I will check it out nontheless.

https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1400

I found it at an American retailer :D This is cherry stabilizers for sure?  I think I'm going to buy those I also want to try out these PBT by leopold, I reckon they are these lauded keycaps: http://goo.gl/zFgWU5 but with side print.

This is the only board that I can find that has these:

Non-led
Non 4 keys above numpad
Cherry stabilizers
Full size

Kind of weird there aren't more of these :)

edit: and surely this has standard bottom row?
