Filco Mejestouch 2 VS Leopold FC750R
« on: Thu, 13 November 2014, 21:50:10 »
Now I currently own a Leopold FC750R at home, and while I love it, I would prefer a white keyboard because of looks and I'm not too comfortable in modding. I'm going to Korea next month and so I'm most likely going to buy a keyboard :p. I've searched online and they have both White leopold Fc750R and White filco mj2 in stock. So my question is, which one has better feel/build quality and any other positive and negatives.

P.S- I dont have a preference of Costar vs Cherry stabs.

Thanks

Leopold FC750R comes with some of best stock keycaps of any boards currently in production. I've never had anything bad to say about Leopold build quality, they are very nice all around. The only con I have with Leopold is they use a funny stabilizer size on the spacebar which makes switching keycap more troublesome... but it comes with nice caps now so not as much of an issue as when they came with lower quality OEM profile keys.
Filco is also OK, but they are kind of overhyped now days and they come with terrible keycap.

According to the Leopold fc750r i have now, I'm able to use KBtalking Backlit PBT keycaps with them, including the spacebar, so I've been wondering if the new leopold fc750r works with standard keycaps, plz correct me if im wrong.

Guys keep the suggestions coming :)

if u intend to change ur keycaps, stick with filco. Otherwise u may wanna consider KUL?

if using stock keycaps I would choose the leopold.

Thanks to this helpful picture from intelli78, it does appear that Leopold has wised up and made their spacebars compatible with aftermarket replacements.

I would agree with Ivan that Diatec (Filco) has sort of been resting on its laurels while a lot of competitors(KUL, Leopold, Ducky) have caught up in quality. The only downside about the Leopold is that they are hard to acquire in the US, and you'd likely have to pay a decent premium for them from widebasket on Ebay, or try and snag one from the classifieds.

KUL doesn't sell white keyboards. I would probably stick with Leopold as I'm starting to have a strong dislike for costar stabs.

FC750R
Spacebar has stabilizers in non-Filco locations.

So the key with the Leopold will fit other keyboards like a Filco but not the other way around.

am i missing something here?

Universal spacebars fit on the FC750R (like those included in most keycap sets), but standard spacebars don't.

Before I order my FC750R I've do a lot search to find out the answer to its weird spacebar's stem position. Then I've got two answers:

first is the picture Flyersfan1 posts showing that FC750r can't use universal spacebars but the spacebar come with it seem to be compatible with both Leopold kbds and other OEM ones

second one is here:http://www.leopold.co.kr/?doc=cart/item.php&it_id=1403755947
This is leopold's official site. As you can see clearly, all the problems with spacebars is now fixed. I think there're two batches of FC750r. Only the new ones have the "right" positon to use almost any spacebar we have.

TLDR: 2nd Edition of FC750R fixed the spacebar problem now the swtiches stand at "right" postion as shown below.
