No more lurking! Forums are hard!
« on: Wed, 19 November 2014, 20:53:22 »
Hey everyone!  I finally buckled down and got an account, after wandering around these forums like a kid in a candy store haha!  Admittedly even though I am no stranger to the internet I have always had a hard time with forums, they always seem really confusing and it always seemed that everyone already knew each other and I could never get to the point where I felt like a part of a community.  So here's to trying!

I am a newbie to the Mech world, I bought my first board just a couple months ago when I preordered a KBParadise v60 with MX Browns (Red/Blue).  I am still running stock keycaps with the exception of the ESC Key because I felt like getting a little something so I picked up a red ESC.  I am simply loving having a good mech!  I didn't know what I was missing out on, and after reading about them for a month I just couldn't wait.  When I saw the preorders for the v60 were up, it always seemed like just what I wanted in a keyboard.  I like minimalism in everying-- my music, apartment, car-- and so I knew a 60% was for me.  I go back and forth on whether I should've gotten Clears or not, but considering it's my first board I always have room to buy more!

Anyway just wanted to say hello and hopefully I will be seeing a lot of you around!!

Glad you finally made an account! If you like minimalist 60% keyboards, you should give the HHKB a look.  :)

Welcome! I felt the same way, especially in this community because everyone is so close for the most part. It might take time but you will get used to it :)

That is a nice keyboard to start on, won't be your last board if you stick around hehe  ;)

Definitely won't be my last HPE!  And Flyer I have definitely looked at HHKB, they have dedicated right hand arrow keys yes?  I really like that style, the reason I picked up the v60 is because I could toggle the arrow keys on the right side as well.  I must admit too, I am really looking forward to picking up some more cosmetic keys!  That will hopefully come first.

The HHKB's arrow keys are accessible through the function layer on the right side of the keyboard, it's a very well thought out and intuitive placement.  The HHKB JP model does have dedicated arrow keys, but a very short spacebar as a compromise.  Plenty of keycaps to choose for the v60 since it has a standard layout, so I'm sure you'll find something you love.  See you around the forums! :)

Around the time I began using LastPass signing up to forums became easier as it stored all the info. Made quite a difference, and since have been active on various boards.

Also, is your tag referring to theatrical opera or the internet browser? If the latter I used to be somewhat of an evangelist before the move to Blink. RIP Opera Classic.

Coreda I'll have to check that out!

My username is a reference to Opera as in the theatrical opera!  I am a professional opera singer in real life, and an "early music" enthusiast so it seemed fitting.  And I like puns haha

Haha, nice. Glad you found a board that suits, too.

Welcome to Geekhack!

I'm still a bit of a noob around here myself :))

Red Esc - would that be the Cherry red Esc from EK?  I can still remember when they were super rare and sold for $250

A nice touch to a keyboard.  Now you can keep an eye out for all the other colours - one for every occasion :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
