But even some currently produced standard keyboards can get quite expensive: for example, Topre keyboards are mostly $200+.

I think by Geekhack standards Topre is dirt cheap. Look at the people above posting about how they modded their $200 Topres into, say, $900 behemoths.

That said, even I use keyboards that would have been at least $250 when sold new to some business or commercial entities. And I'm far from being finished. Depending on how easy it is to mod my Hengyu versus my Access-IS and whether I can get an 8x8 Tipro, I'll eventually add bluetooth modules and mount a trackball and stuff like that so I'm looking at $300 at least despite all my 'don't spend too much' rants.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

So like do you guys also have beast computers to justify the heavy keyboard expenses. Or do ppl here go crazy on keyboards and attach them to mediocre computers

I won't lie, I have a pretty beast computer.  After It's all said and done, my computer + monitors will easily be 2.5-3x more than what I will have spent on my keyboards to date.
With that being said my computer is about 1 year old and I fully expect it to last me 5-8 years.  Worthwhile investment IMO when I spend an average of I'd say 4 hours a day on it.
O.O what's your build?

Cm case (can't remember model)
Intel 3770k cpu
16 GBP corsair ram
Mid grade mobo gigabyte. About 170 USD
Gtx 760 gfx card
250 GB samsung 840 add
Corsair H50 water cooling unit.
Windows 8.1 pro
Logitech g502 mouse
2x Dell 23 inch s2340m ips monitors
1x Acer LCD 23 inch monitor
You call that a beast computer?  :))
yea... cpu 3 gen old. and a mid tier gpu, i mean its "good" but not good enough to be "beast"

in his defense....the CPU is one generation old.

current gen:  haswell
previous gen: ivy bridge

EDIT:  let's be honest.  the only consumer line desktop CPU that is beast is the Sandy Bridge 2600K.  everything else is a poor imitation :P

Yeah it isn't a bad computer not by any means, but it really isn't "beast". I'm still using my 2600k :P
Very busy with studies atm.

i'm sarcasticly saying that since releasing the 2600k, none of the succeeding cpus are actually better.

Well my GH60 was pretty pricey when all was said and done but I'm happy with it so that's all that matters in the end.

GH60 pcb - $50
Alu plate - $45
Switches, springs, lube - $70
Alu case #1 - $135 (never received it, don't ever deal with alixinhzai!)
Alu case #2 - $90
GMK caps - $100
Candy Corn Clack - $35

Total = $525

The case was the killer, was the most expensive item and I got shafted by that prick alixinhzai.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Most likely. A viper unassembled kit alote shipped to USA with shipping and fees from the GB works out to about 300 directly from the GB

Since both of my keyboards are stock I bought both of them at their retail value. The highest is, of course, my Ducky Shine 3 at $150. Although my Quickfire Stealth might catch up as I spend more money on additions to it like a custom braided cable, keycaps, etc. (but that doesn't mean I won't be making additions to my Ducky either!  :p).
