Looking for a 75% keyboard or PCB (with ISO layout)
« on: Mon, 24 November 2014, 11:47:08 »
Hi,

I am looking for a 75% (like the mx-mini oder the noppoo choc mini) keyboard with ISO (german) layout. Because I know there is none on the market (at least i cant find one) right now, I am looking for a PCB (because they usually support ISO and ANSI layout) and mounting plate. I am also very into DIY, so the PCB solution appeals more to me.

GONs ps2avr mx-mini is out of stock (because he is developing v. 2.0 right now), so I am looking for an alternative.

Does someone know something?

And another question: Are there any online stores where i can buy mounting plates? I am also interestend in building a TKL keyboard, but I cant find any retailer, which sells mounting plates. There are only obsolete group buys...
I was considering to make it myself, but there is no way you can craft this with home tools, or is there? If someone has any ideas, feel free to tell me! =)

Thx in advance!

you might be able to find a Race II on amazon.de at some point, but they're pretty rare atm. They could be bringing out more after Christmas from what I've heard though.

I should have mentioned that it is also about the alignment of the numeric and function (F1 to F12) keys. I need/want the F-keys lineary aligned directly above the numeric keys (as the noppoo choc mini has for example).

But thanks for the response!

Do you mean this one? If you do -> This is a damn nice kb, but this is going to be my first DIY kb and I did not inted to spend ~500 USD (which would nearly the case, if I order the one from the here)... I know a custom keyboard is a costy matter and I expected something around ~300 USD, but including shippings and everything else. But.... ~500 USD is a litte bit over the top for this (first DIY) project. Though I appreciate your recommendation  :thumb:

Any other suggestions/recommendations?

~360 after shipping and fees + 40 dollars for switches + keycaps (price varies), anything additional is optional.

Could cost as little as 400 for this project (all SMD parts, diodes, resistors, and the RGB LEDs come pre-soldered).

maybe if you live in the US =) I am from austria... switches and keycaps (with shipping) cost over 100 Euros if you are lucky to find keycaps in stock... the alternative is to buy a mechanical keyboard with cherry switches, desolder and use only the switches and keycaps for your own projects...

Octagon don't support ISO

so the octagon is also not an option =(

but i have one problem less. the mounting plate could be manufactured by the company i work for. that opens up new possibilities for me =) I think i am going to build a phantom (for developing and testing purposes) and design my own layout (mounting plate + pcb) afterwards.

I think Ortek MCK-84 is pretty close, if you don't mind that it have Alps type switch. Not many other choice for ISO really.

GON has the new NERD MX-Mini in stock now. Shipping at the end of december. MX-Mini with Nerdy GUI functionality, support for his Bluetooth module I believe, and some other bells and whistles.

I don't know if he has a case/plate that supports ISO, he probably does if he did for his old one, but it's worth checking?

From both the Alu NS MX-Mini and the Crystal MX-Mini store pages:
"Supports almost all Keylayouts including ISO!!!"

Safe to say GONs new 75% boards will support ISO!

Dammit... now I want one (not because ISO but because I looked at pictures of the GON MX-Mini again... it's been a week since I last looked at his page, staying away from the temptation... but now I'm back lusting after another GON...)
