recent finds, including hyndai super LT3

at work someone dumped a PS/2, monochrome display, and of course, the associated 1391401. the keyboard is a 1987 model with left-side gray IBM logo, detachable (and missing) cable, and the older, more durable key inscriptions.

i haven't tested it yet, but since there are large cigarette burns on the case, i suspect it's seen a lot of abuse. my plan was to use it as a source of parts for the 1996 model M i got from wellington a few months ago. i've already taken one of its springs, and i think i might transplant the keycaps too.

but more interesting than that... a friend of mine who sees a lot of recycled computer goods says he's found a hyndai super LT3, a laptop he says appears to have a mechanical keyboard. sounds like it might be a seriously old piece of hardware, but then again, i can probably use it as a serial terminal. i just need to remember to pick it up before the next time he takes out the trash.

Two-shot on a Model M? If I'm not mistaken not even the Fs have that.

The main problem for the LT3s seems to be amnesia (e.g. here). Prolly a dead CMOS battery hiding inside - look out for a DS1287/12887 or compatible types, too (dremel ftw).

dual shot? no idea. i don't really care.

by 1996 the dye they were using fades pretty rapidly, to the point that the non-numeric inscriptions on the number pad are so light i can't read them. the majority of the letter keys on here are kind of a reddish brown, and i'm sure it's just dye fading, rather than scraping off due to wear, because it does not correlate with letter frequency.

on the one from the junk pile everything is a dark black! but i need to wash them.

(not to imply that wellington sent me a bad keyboard of course -- when it arrived it was so clean it looked brand new, and functioned flawlessly, and he sent it practically for the price of shipping)

could be a bad batch of keycaps. i don't think wellington used it on the beach, though, as there was no sand to be found, and really, no board chow of any kind.
