Customizer keynoise compared to Das III?

Hi!

I have a Das III and I have been very satisfied with the blue cherry switches. Now I have the opportunity to have a BS switch keyboard (Customizer) keyboard from US to Finland without the ridiculous shipping fees. But as I work in an open office environment, I'm not so sure my co-workers are going to enjoy the Customizer as much.

So my question is: how much louder the Customizer's BS switches are compared to blue cherries? I know it is hard to evaluate the level of "noise" but as I code typing 100 wpm, I fear that the keynoise could be a little too high.

It's hard to quantify how much louder it is, but I'd say that the Customizer it's noticably louder than a blue Cherry board. I would argue that it makes a much more pleasing noise than a blue Cherry board, but obviously your co-workers may or may not agree.

To my ears, they are equally loud, but the blue Cherries have a more ... penetrating? ... sound. Makes them fun to type on, but potentially more annoying to anyone listening.

The Customizer just sounds like you're doing hard graft. When did that become unacceptable in an office? Seems to me we are expected to put up with the constant harassment of phones ringing, and people yakking away in the background, yet the sound of someone using the right tool for the job is considered intrusive. Sorry for the rant.:yell:

Couldnt have put it better myself. The Cherrys make a snappy plasticky sound, whereas the buckling springs make a more satisfying metal clank.

It's hard to quantify, but the sound of a Blue cherry in an office environment does not seem to be, at least to me, as "heavy" when comparing it to other mechanical keyboards.  Being a higher pitch it just kind of blends in with the other noise, instead of creating this thick layer of sound.

I'm going to get around to posting these soon - I recorded ALL my keyboards using the same mike and recording levels.

Wow! The noise level is surprisingly similar though the pitch is different. BS actually sounds less irritating to me

Yep. Blues have a fairly high-pitched sound. With BS, there is far more going on in the mids, certainly also because of the metal backplate. I would imagine that the noise made by blues is more easily absorbed by carpets and such.

If all fails, one could still install a bunch of soundproofing materials.

as far as key noise in the office, i have found that it works pretty well to "boil the frog slowly". i started with an M10, switched to an AT-101W for a while, then brought the Das III in for a bit, and last week nobody said a word when i was typing on a Model M.

I am curious also.  You either have an extensive collection of off-the-wall "art", or a great memory.  Maybe iMav could create a group titled "now, for something completely different", or "Ripsters Cyber Detour of the Day".
