A few Alps / Matias related questions
« on: Mon, 08 December 2014, 10:21:02 »
1. Is there any way I can get hold of single Alps Switches

2. Is there any way I can get hold of single Matias Switches

3. What is the closest I can get to Complicated Blue Alps? Is it by lubing Matias Click switches or is there another, better way?

4.In general, what distinguishes the general feel of alps from the general feel of MX?

1.  You can try the Classifieds.

2.  You can get sets of 5 from mechanicalkeyboards.com

3.  Depends who you talk to.  Some say complicated White Alps, some say clicky Matias, and I say click modded Orange or Salmon.

4.  Alps feel a little tighter to me.  Green Alps are the best (smoothest and best weight) linear switches I have ever felt.  Orange are the closest switch to Topre.  Blues are crisper and have a nicer sound profile than MX Blues.

1) If you ask in the Free Stuff thread, maybe you can get some. Otherwise you'll have to harvest from other boards.

2) I think Mechanicalkeyboards.com sells 5 packs of Matias switches.

3) I think the Matias Click switches are close in general. Lubing in my experience kills the clickiness.

4) The most distinguishing feature in my opinion is that the actuation point is much closer to the top of the stroke when you press down on the key. Some more of my personal thoughts on Alps can be found here.

Thanks for the responses. Does anyone have a link to a Keychatter quality sound test video for the Matias Click switches? I love the sound of those Complicated Blues and want to see how great the difference is.
