« on: Wed, 10 December 2014, 08:58:10 »
Hi guys, on start i want to sorry for my english, Im from Poland, and my english isn't perfect, but I really need help.

I want buy mechanical keyboard for fps gaming, I always play CS:GO, and something like this, cod, battlefield etc. Sometimes I play RTS like LoL or Dota, but I pref FPS keyboard.
I Think the best keys for me will be red/brown, cause sometimes I have to write something. Today I search nice keyboard tesoro colada saint in really nice price 148.99 USD, I think thats its really good price, because standard is about 200 USD in my country. But this keyboard have black switches, seller doesn't have other :/. Im not sure that black switches will be good for me, because I wrote that its really nice, but for RTS players, im FPS player :/. What do you think, Should I take this cheap tesoro or should I take other? CM Storm TK red switches is looking good, but you now tesoro is aluminum its looking really amazing.

The old wive's tale for blacks is that their stronger spring allows them to bounce back faster so they should be better for FPS games, butI don't think anyone has every measured any noticeable difference. Actually, they should technically be the 'best' switch if you're goal is to press keys the fastest.

From my personal experience, black switches are nice because you can 'float' or prepare your actions and you don't have to wait for the key to hit the bump. I play a lot of shooters, but I'm not very good at any of them except TF2 so take that for what it is.

I love typing on blacks, I do notice I type a bit faster on blues but the noise and bump are just really not my preference for an all around keyboard.

Have you considered ordering from China? Shipping is probably free and there are plenty of choices available on Aliexpress.

Good quality board with 6KRO or better is all that really matters. Switch type is largely unimportant, though perhaps blues/other click type are less than ideal for many. Don't be afraid to buy used board from classifieds here, you will likely get a better board for your money than buying something new in local shops.

Reds are the easiest to double-tap, and the quietest (relevant if you use the mic).

Ye, I know these things, red are the smoothest, black are the strongest. This question may be good. Black switches are stronger than membrane keys?

I would think that linear switches would be the best.
I have used reds before and I did like them for when I was playing games.
Right now, I have BS, topre, and clears. All ****ing horrible for gaming IMO.

Have you looked to see what Roccat has to offer?  This may be a bit more what you are looking for?  However, I could be wrong.

I've never measured anything, but I can definately attest to these merits of stiffer MX switches. I tried switching from blacks to blues, and I just couldn't do it for this reason exactly. The springs in the lighter switches just don't push your fingers back up with enough force.

Overall, in gaming, I've found that having a stronger upstroke is much more important than having a light downstroke. But at the end of the day, switches are just opinion. Anytime you see "x is best for gaming", take it with a grain of salt.

so, black will be perfect, because i have big fingers, but I worried cause, I think thats black are really typical hard keys, but if its better than membrane, it will be really nice. I bought tesoro colada saint, maybe my next mechanical keyboard(after 6 years) will be better like filco, or something like that. Really thanks for help guys, and any admin can close topic, thanks again guys!  :thumb:

It's really not as hard as you're thinking, so no worries. Enjoy your new keyboard!

There is no real world advantage of using one switch over another. Not in FPS, as is evidenced by the different switches used at the competitive level (if one held a clear competitive advantage, you would see that switch being used exclusively). Even in more keyboard dependent genres such as RTS there are a lot of different switches that are used. Some claim that certain switches reduce their accidental keypresses or affect APM. But even that is based on personal preference rather than specific switches giving players an overall better performance.

So just go for the keyboard that you like the feel off. Any decent keyboard will fulfill the requirements for gaming, most notable 6 or more key rollover. Other than that, it is all just personal preference.

Regarding Cherry MX blacks. I quite like them for gaming. Some people love them for typing as well, but for me personally, they have a tad too much resistance to be comfortable to type in long sessions. They are the only switch together with Matias Alps where I actually felt my hands fatigue (after hours of work).

Congrats on your purchase! But for those who come across this later and for reference...

I don't really think the switch type matters that much... I game with MX Red, Brown, Blue, 55g Topre, and I've even played CSGO on the Model M (buckling spring).

What seems to matter most is not getting fatigued. Losing energy in your fingers (after hours, mind you) can affect you... otherwise, I think it's just preference.

MX Blue has the unique issue of not double-tapping well as the release point is higher than the actuation point, but I've never found this to be an issue. MX Red are said to be good as they are light enough and linear, but you don't necessarily feel the actuation and accidental presses of adjacent keys is easiest on Reds.

Like Grim Fandango said, I really think it's personal choice. I don't even have a favorite and like to rotate fairly often. I'm currently on MX Browns and they're quite good for CSGO.

You should get a Razer blackwidow. One of the tkls of course.

Theres a reason most top level gaymers and pros use it.

Also get a Razer mouse, mouse pad and headset while you're at it too! You're gonna frag a lot harder.

Another archive reference here now that this thread has run its course.

I'm approaching my 1000th match of Red Orchestra 2 (ww2 FPS). It entirely online and I'm pretty competitive. If you'd asked me a week ago, I'd have said a Cherry Red, Blue or Brown would be ideal, and indeed I still would say that. My absolute top choice now for FPS, without any hesitation, is the Logitech G910. It's simply better than the Cherry boards for gaming. My K95 RGB ( an excellent board) will be heading onto eBay...that's how highly I rate the Orion Spark. How mad is that?

Am skeptical

Will investigate when I can get a 910 for cheaper.

I know reds are the "most popular/best" gaming switches, but my preference is blacks. Frankly it's a matter of feel one way or another, the main thing stopping me from using blues for gaming is the click tends to annoy the **** out of people on skype/mumble/ts3/etc.
My gripe with reds is that I found it too easy to fat finger other keys. Your mileage obviously will vary

Love Blues for gaming...and Browns and Reds too. Itching to try topres at some point, but I suspect that Romers aren't a million miles away from then in character.

Highly,  highly recommend KUL ES-87 red switches for FPS.
I've had a filco MXred as well but the low profile and excellent plate that feels "deadened" compliments reds a lot better on the KUL.
Cherry stabs i would say is also better for gaming because they allow you to not bottom out on modifiers.

MY advice:

1) we have many Polish members. I'm sure some of them will want to sell their stuff
2) Tesoro is not ideal for modders. I have opened one before (I think it was a Durandal but I don't remember and it wasn't mine) and remember it had a lousy PCB. If you buy Tesoro, don't expect to mod it, because a poor quality PCB is easily damaged when you desolder and resolder.
3) If you have the budget, buy one for gaming and one for typing. If not, then just buy browns as they are a compromise between typing and gaming.

I am using black switches now because I still have to desolder this keyboard. Yucks! (It takes forever for me to desolder a double sided PCB that's why.)
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

There's no gaming keyboard unless your definition of the word 'gaming' is all those media keys, "anti ghosting" and whatever the hell razer is advertising today.

I'd recommend a few boards
Full sized
- CM Storm Quickfire XT
- Filco Majestouch 2
- Ducky Shine series

Tenkeyless
- CM Storm Quickfire Rapid
- Filco Majestouch 2 TKl
- Ducky TKLs
- Novatouch (if you're into topre)

60%
- Poker 2
- Ducky Mini
- HHKB (VERY EXPENSIVE AND IT'S TOPRE)

Find the switch you the most, although it seems that you've already chosen MX Blacks haha.
