I don't know about the resale value of Unicomp keyboards, but I am assuming it would be lower than original purchase price. At least if you pick up a Model M within a decent price range, you are pretty much guaranteed to be able to sell it for what you paid. I guess from that perspective getting a model M over Unicomp even if it to just try it out would seem safer. If you find it in a garage sale and you didn't like it then there is a chance of making a small profit on it.

As long as you don't do two days research, decide on something a bit rarer like an SSK, see an opportunity, get a case of the crazy spenders and pay a keyboards worth of shipping (not to mention the sale price) for your first Model M. Straya problems.

It depends. On my country Ducky Filco Das are nearly the same price, so I choose Filco only.

Sorry to resurrect this post, but I just wanted to let everyone know what I decided on. I ended up getting a Model M. A wonderful community member named fanpeople messaged me about a Model M going on Ebay for $10 with out the key terminology that most people selling Model M's had (this one literally said Vintage IBM PS/2 Keyboard). I ended up getting this for the $10 starting price (then $26 in shipping which pissed me off). the keyboard is in good condition. It's missing the F3 keycap and the left alt keycap as described. Thank you to those that replied to my original post for giving your input and helping me decide on a keyboard. this is taking some getting used to, and I am noticing some finger fatigue, so we'll see if I keep using this permanently or not. I am liking it though. Thanks again  :D

Very nice.  I just got an F XT converted and find the switches to be a touch lighter than the M.  But it is very loud.  Gratz on the nice find.

Nice acquisition, congratulations :)

Those keycaps could do with a bit of a clean - try soaking them in warm water with two or three denture tablets for 5 or 10 minutes - let them dry and reinstall.  They should clean up nicely.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
