Just delved into the world of loud keyboards!
« on: Mon, 29 December 2014, 10:42:50 »
I ordered my first mech from /r/mechmarket over on Reddit. It's a Corsair K70 w/ Cherry MX Reds and red backlighting. I am psyched! I feel like I got a good deal for $80. Happened upon this forum looking for some novelty keycaps to throw on there because I like that sort of thing. I'll be sticking around!

Welcome to GH!

$80's definitely not a bad price! Any particular reason for getting reds? just cause it was available?

Welcome to Geekhack!

If you're looking for keycaps, this thread might be a good place to start.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yup! I have never even tried any mech keys, saw it and decided I'd grab it because of the price. These are taking some getting used to because they feel very light. Lots of mi****s when typing. Gaming on it feels amazing though.

Reds are very light - any including me) find them too light.

That is when you wonder about trying MX blacks - linear like reds, but somewhat stiffer springs.

Springs from clears are the best for linear switches.  Actuation point is a touch lighter than blacks but bottom out a touch heavier than blacks.  They have a much steeper force curve than other Cherry springs.
