New to Mechanical Keyboards and GH
« on: Thu, 08 January 2015, 13:06:20 »
Hey guys, I'm Rade.

Others might know me as Rademaker or itwasyellow for various other platforms.

This week I had the pleasure of finally experiencing a mechanical keyboard for the first time. It was a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate. I enjoyed the feeling, but returned it because of the disgusting "hollow" upward sound when a key is released. I've since ordered a Ducky Mini (yeah yeah, go ahead and hate on the bezel. I may end up removing it anyway) and can't wait for it to come in!

Now I'm shopping for keycaps, both full sets and novelties. I love how the brocaps (v2 I think? The mostly-flat ones ones) look, and I'd love to get my hands on a neat special escape key. As for full sets, I really can't decide what I want... I'm just jealous of all of you with your pretty setups! All I know is I want blank keys or lettering to take advantage of the gorgeous ducky backlighting.

Anyways, if any of you know how I can get my hands on cheap blank full sets or novelty keys, drop me a line!

Add me on steam if you play games, by the same name Rade.

Nice getting to know you all, but I've got to get back to hunting key caps!

-Rade

Welcome to GH!

nice first board, i do hate on the bezel but don't let other people's opinion change your own, if you like it then stay with that!

As for everything else, the BroBot v2 is definitely an amazing cap but unfortunately Brocap has stopped production on them, or going to after the next sale? so you're gonna have a hard time getting your hands on one unless you can manage to get another rare cap like a Clack to trade for one.
If you're looking to have backlight compatible keys then basically your only option is Vortex's doubleshot PBT/POM keys, if you just want cheap caps or blanks then you can look into rosewill's doubleshot ABS keys or blank PBT keys from Banggood (here's a link to the PBT blanks http://www.banggood.com/PBT-87-Blank-White-Key-Caps-for-Cherry-MX-Keyboard-p-84084.html)
If you're looking for thicker better quality caps there's a huge choice but a good go to PBT set is definitely Ducky PBT caps.

Enjoy your stay here, i pray for your wallet lol

Welcome to Geekhack!

I quite like the bezel on the Ducky Mini, but I think I am in the minority :p

What type of keycaps are you looking for?  Material?  Colour?  Price?

Elite Keyboards has some very cheap blank sets for $20: http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,cherrymxkeys

These are OEM profile and ABS, so they will shine after a while, but you won't find many sets cheaper than that.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody!

Finally got the mini in the mail today, and it feels fantastic!

I'll be checking out those links for sure. Now just to decide what color or design to make with blanks...  :))

You can use existing layouts as inspiration, or come up with something completely new!

Either way, please post pictures in the media section of what you create :)
