I see now.  That explains a lot.  I was saying that there was no indication that it was a type "I" at all.  Now that everything is clear, I still think paying that much on a keyboard is outrageous.  Of course a collector would.  Put it under glass and show it off and never use it?
Oh well.

Rare items like these seem almost like an investment. Buy a few and sell them on when a new korean custom takes your fancy.

Naaaa, when I buy a keyboard, I buy it to use it.  Not to flip it.

Anyone who would pay $2000 or even $1000 for a Model M of any kind is out of their damn mind. But hey, it's your money, who am I to tell you how to spend it.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $350 for any Model M, industrial, SSK, or otherwise. And that's me as a collector speaking, not as a user. Once the market had flushed out all the big spenders who will pay any price for a collector's item, the prices will come down to a reasonable market value.

^^ I hear ya. I think spending much more than $200-$300 on any board is pretty crazy. I bought a HHKB a few years ago and although I like it I won't be doing that again any time soon. It really wasn't worth the price to me.

I will try to stay on topic.  Some keyboard prices of space savers are crazy.  I think top dollar I would pay for a keyboard is about $300.00  I am a collector of sorts, but IMO keyboards, even if rare, should be used.  With that being said  I've probably sunk 300+ into my 107 key and would like to get it powder coated at some point.  At any rate their are collectors out there that make substantially more money than I do, or have more disposable income, and that unfortunately drives prices way up.  With this being industrial, it will go for a ton of money no doubt.  At the very least with keyboards that bring big money are at least going to be well looked after :)

I don't understand people bidding early on any item. It just drives the price up all the more. Forum members ought to unite against insanely high prices for vintage boards. In any event, I am steering clear of this one.

^ This. A thousand times, this.

We are collectors and users here, buyers looking for a good bargain. Don't try and outbid your fellow community member. Maybe we can collectively get the prices back in line.

The seller updated his listing with a note as well.   Seems like he was using iPhone photo filters that distorted the original images.   It looks to be in great shape and a "real"  I SSK despite not having the IBM logo on top.

I'm wondering what kind of filter makes something look like it has splotchy paint and hairs/fibers all over it.

I totally agree that SSKs with a differently colored case shouldn't be worth more than a regular model, but I have to admit it tickled my funny bone that this guy had TWO of them with no idea how desirable they are among collectors. He was just looking at them as keyboards. Seems like there's a good lesson there for all of us, eh?

Like that time someone was going to recycle one for scrap metal, and someone suggested he list it on eBay.  Ended up selling for $1200 I think.

Is this your first time on eBay? People bid early and often all the time, especially on rare items.

**** that 420 candy corn a few weeks ago hit $200 with a week left.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

There is a philosophy that placing a very high bid early on will make everybody else throw up their hands and walk away.

And, since whatever is showing on your screen is only one increment above the 2nd-highest bid, there are 2 things that can be deduced:

(1) more than one person is thinking that it is worth a price at this level
(2) the high bidder may yet have considerable headroom up to his maximum
"It's 110, but it doesn't feel it to me, right. If anybody goes down. Everybody was so worried yesterday about you and they never mentioned me. I'm up here sweating like a dog. They don’t think about me. This is hard work.
Do you feel the breeze? I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don't care about you. I just want your vote. I don't care."

That strategy might be effective if the maximum bid amount was made public... not sure it's too effective the way ebay currently works.

Depends. If you don't mind overpaying it's a fine strategy to bring the price high early on but if your goal is to win at a lower price this accomplishes nothing to start a bidding war so early to get people to drop out.
