Ebay found: Could that be BS?
« on: Sun, 16 August 2009, 15:26:21 »
Hi@all.

In some case, it is pointless because I managed to make the highest bid, but I'd like to gather some thoughts before it arives.

What do you think, maybe ist was too much?

Omg. Do want. I sure could find the use for a good rackmountable keyboard. €23.50 sounds more or less like a steal.

I seriously doubt that's IBM - hate to state the obvious, but the lack of IBM logo is a bit of a giveaway. Maybe they meant IBM compatible or something like that?

It could be an Alps board, I've seen such boards with a similar layout before.

It's quite obvious that this is a board *for* IBM PCs, going by the back label. Anyway, I'd guess it's a solid piece of kit, Alps switches or similar seems like a reasonable assumption.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

Alps wouldn't be that bad of a deal either. Anyway, I think it could be awesome for a mod or something else. Anyway, I'm curious. ^^

Ahhh. I wish you paid attention to the [.de] topic in the eBay section!

I asked there to see if someone else was going to bid for it. If you mentioned you were going for it I would not have set up my bids and you would have probably gotten it cheaper.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to you receiving this and hopefully opening it up to show some pics here!

Oh. Maybe I should explore geekhack.org a bit more. :behindsofa:

The funny thing is, my bid has been just 0,50€ higher or so. xD
Ok. Whatever.

I've bought a camera lately, so no ****ty pics from my cellphone anymore.^^

Go to elma.de:

http://www.elma.de/Germany/German/Products/GehaeuseKomponenten_1/19Zubehoer_106/833.aspx (site in german)

It says "gold contacts" so most likely you'll get Cherry switches.

Nice keyboard, good price.

Here are a few pictures of a different ELMA board. It uses white ALPS copies(?).

Ok. It is supposely not BS but at least it seems to be a nice qualityboard.

It suits fine for some modding projects. :-)

Ok guys. That thing is here...

Ripster... you will hate me...^^

Could that be some kind of old MX-Switches? They are tactile with audible feedback.

White SMK switches, copies of Blue Cherrys, except somewhat stiffer. A lot of people reckon them to be superior to the originals.

Any details on the keyboard itself? Manufacturer? FCC ID? Part number?

Cherry is unlikely. These switches remind me of these SMKs, but are different again.

EDIT: Too slow. Compare with these boards.

IBM Tastatur
70-060-05
07. 1992

So much regarding the label.

The keys feel kinda strange. I can't discribe it.
It feels like they have worn out springs or something for the tactility.

So basically, SMK made the same switches with different plungers so that they could be Cherry or ALPS compatible?

I think they made some with (real) Alps and others with SMKs (Cherry-compatible).
