Custom case/base on my HHKB P2?
« on: Sun, 01 February 2015, 13:44:52 »
What are the steps I would need to take to have a custom case like the GON keyboards?

What's the easiest way to go about this? I've seen GON HHKBs but they had MX switches, didn't seem to be HHKB Professional 2.

I'm sorry if there is somewhere else I can find this information but I'm not the best at navigating the site.

Its harder for the hhkb because the switch tops are part of the case.  For the 87ub you can pop them out, so that might be a better starting place.

I also know nothing, so none of this info may be true.

The case isn't part of the switch..it is just that the switch is mounted into the case vs. say a realforce where they're mounted on a plate and the plate sits in the case..

The hard part is you'd need to create a case that can also hold the switches..and that probably isn't that easy to do...Plastic I doubt would be that easy to get made...if you go metal you're almost better off just going to a 660c because you'll change the feel..

The closest realistic thing might be to create a aluminum bottom for it...so the top part of the case will mount onto that....Not sure what the point would be..add weight?  You can probably add weight into the space near the back feet (there is some space there) if that's all you wanted...

I'm pretty sure you literally just said the same thing...
Topre switches have sliders, domes, tops, and spring.  For the hhkb the switch tops are part of (molded with) the top case(instead of having a separate plate like rf/nt/660c etc)
