Can the V60 Matias stabilizer mounts be swapped for Costar mounts?
« on: Mon, 02 February 2015, 17:42:19 »
So I'm looking to buy a V60 Matias, but I'm going through the struggle of finding good keycaps to replace to awful stock ones. I've been planning to use IBM 5140 alphanumerics and Dell AT101W modifiers, but I'd rather be able to participate in SP's current Delta Blue GB. The problem with that keyset is that the modifiers use Costar-type stabilizers, and the V60 does not. Is there any way to swap out the V60's square stab mounts for Costar stab mounts so I could use the Delta Blue keyset?

I am curious about this as well.  I have some costar mount alps keys from my Chicony if someone local (California?) with a V60 would be willing to try them out.  I will ship them out, but you would need to ship them back when done with the experiment.
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

No.

... Unless you design and fabricate yourself some custom-shaped adapters. I believe it should be possible, but I don’t have any particular personal motivation to do it. If you can use CAD software, and get your calipers on some examples of the parts, definitely give it a shot though.

Also, it’s a bit of a shame to try to poach parts from an IBM 5140 for this. You’d end up with a much more interesting and unique keyboard by building a new bottom case for the 5140 keyboard, and converting it to USB with a Teensy. (Or alternately, just keep the whole computer around as a nice piece of history.) If you do decide to do this though could you mail me remainder of the 5140 keyboard minus the alpha caps you pull off? I’ll give you a few bucks for it and put the parts to good use on other projects.
