Apple Keyboard (M0116) ADB to USB?
« on: Mon, 17 August 2009, 20:17:03 »
Hey I'm a new member here. I decided to register after hearing great things about this community and it's general helpfulness.

I recently acquired a Macintosh SE
20mb SCSI HDD, 8Mhz Processor, 1mb of ram and a 800k Floppy drive.
It's a beauty for what it is.

With it came a Apple Desktop Bus Mouse (G5431)
And what I found to be an extraordinary keyboard.
A Apple Keyboard (M0116)

I love the keyboard, to me it's just the best I have ever used.

After doing some research I found that it can be converted to standard usb.
The adapter costs a minimum of 40$ and supposedly only works for mac's with it's special drivers.

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge to convert a ADB connection to a USB.

I found these simple schematics online.

Pin 1    ADB    Data
Pin 2    PSW    Power on
Pin 3    +5V    +5 volts power
Pin 4    GND    Ground

If someone could tell me a list of materials and instructions I would need or some more info on the subject it would be greatly appreciated.
Or if someone has done it before/ done it before and have made it operational for Windows ( or even linux )

Thank-you to anyone who replies.

Yes Kishy has directed me here and I thank him for that.
The retail (I use that term loosely) adapted for this job is a bit pricey for what it is.
I really don't have that type of money right now.
I know it's possible to make one "home-brew" I just need guidelines and such.

Yep.  The Griffin iMate will work fine in Windows without a driver.

Thank-you for confirming it works in windows AND linux. That is a really benefit to me.
but I don't really have the money for it at this time(and probably the future) as I said.
Also I tried finding it for sale online and it's virtually impossible.

Unfortunately the iMate seems to be discontinued, and used samples are in short supply.  There have been a few other ADB->USB or ADB->PS/2 adapter on the market -- marketed primarily for use with KVM switches -- but I believe most or all of those are also discontinued.

Yeah, I can't find a ADB > USB/PS/2 converter anywhere.
I also own a KVM switch so I don't know if that comes into play but eh you never know.
