Possible Topre compatible keycaps
« on: Sat, 07 February 2015, 12:15:07 »
I have 2 Apple Design keyboards.  Standard RD, don't have a use for them but based on some other threads it sounds like they may have compatible keycaps.

If someone could let me know if they are that would be great.  Also If they are I would be interested in selling though I have no idea about a fair price, but that might be a separate thread.

The bottom one almost looks like the opposite of an Alps keycap.  Kinda like the slot on the top of an Alps switch that the keycap fits in to.

The top one you might imagine would fit a Topre board, but it would require both clips removed, and an irregularly shaped chunk carved out of each side of the barrel before it would even go close to a Topre keyboard (assuming it was even the right size).
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Exactly what Rowdy said.  The top one would have to have stabilizers clipped and the cylinder would have to be modified.  The bottom one is turned 90 degrees from what it would need to be.

Hmm, I had also posted over on DT and it appears someone there has successfully used caps like these.  Topre gods are just begging me to get one :( lol.

Thanks Nover.  Forgot to link the thread :D.
