Just did a writeup on my blog about the V80MTS.

KBParadise posted on their FB a couple days ago and said they're working on engineering samples now. This isn't a big surprise I guess but it'll be the first ALPS TKL since the Filco Zero so it should make some folks pretty happy. I'm interested to see if they're going to build in backlighting support for Matias switches. Doubt they will since they didn't include them w/ V60 MTS, but there is a nonzero chance.

Has anybody here gotten their hands on Matias Quiet Linear switches yet?

Cool. Nice to see more Alps options coming out. I like the Matias switches, but... Well don't tell anyone but I think their boards are fugly. >_>;

I don't have a board with the matias linears, but I do have a few loose switches. They feel nice. Not too stiff but still enough resistance to not be a chore. I could swear there's just the tiniest tactile feel to it at the bottom of the press before you completely bottom out, but they're definitely a linear switch and it's probably just a symptom of pressing a bare switch since I don't own any Alps keys.

They're faster than the other Matias switches, obviously, because the slider is red.  :p

Glad they decided to make the V80 MTS. I will probably stick with the V60 MTS unless they use a different case then their regular V80.

I'm not a fan of the rounded bevels.

I agree with your assessment of the Matias linears. I think that slight tactile feeling (which ruins it for me personally) is due to the rubber in the stem. They are meant to dampen or reduce the sound, but I think it is actually reducing the smoothness of the linear switch. For me, the quality of a linear switch in how smooth it is.

nah, that tiny bump near the bottom is the slider hitting the contact leaf.
Source: pulled the tac-leaves out of my quiet switches. Haven't tried the proper linears.

I just emailed KBP for a status update on the V80MTS. They said it was delayed because they had to modify the tooling and plate. They also mentioned that they hope to have the first engineering sample ready in the next few days.

I'm really curious about the V80 with matias, it will be the first TKL layout (I mean, without layout sins) using Matias switches. I will probably grab one since I wanted to try Matias switches but the compact laptop-esque layout of Matias keyboards was a no-no for me.

I'm really curious about the V80 with matias,

If you are curious come to Keycon

AFAIK a sample will still be ready for showing off at this time with a good chance of a tour afterwards.

  • Hi!
Jacobolus made a thread a little while back with a short write up on the Matias linear switches that were featured at one of the Bay Area meetups, Here's the link to the thread

From what he said, they sound pretty awesome! I was thinking about ordering them with the infinity kit, but decided to wait for now.
