Missed key presses on Mionix Zibal 60
« on: Wed, 11 February 2015, 09:24:22 »
A co-worker handed me a mechanical keyboard yesterday and told me I could have it.
It is a Mionix Zibal 60. Never heard of this brand before yesterday.

At first it seemed fine, but after a day of having it, I realized why the original owner gave up on it. Occasionally while typing, key presses simply don't register. This is not an issue of actuation as I bottom out while typing anyways.

I took the board apart but didn't see any noticable bad solder points or loose connections. The only thing I can think of is a bad connection in the pin hardness that connects the key circuit board to the logic board.

Any recommendations on how to go about testing a problem like this?

Check the joints again with the connectivity setting on a multimeter. Might have a cold joint.

Might also be a debounce issue. I believe you can tweak that if you use the TMK firmware so perhaps you can figure out how to run a teensy into your board? I'm not 100% sure though.

Does it act the same with the legs extended (tilted up) and with the legs retracted (laying flat on the desk)?  It might be flexing more during typing with the legs extended. This could be a clue to a cracked trace or bad solder joint.

I'm only using it with legs up right now, I'll try it with legs down and see if it gets worse.

Will do.

When I take it apart again, I'll check which controller is onboard.
