different feel with same switch type?

Hey guys,

I just received a KUL87ES with MX Blue switches and immediately notice that there is a difference between how individual keys feel and sound.... about a dozen keys give about half the sound and feel or less than the others..

Anyone experienced this before? Is it due to it being new, or is this a factory defect?

I have several boards with blue switches, the switches feel consistent in each example I have. They might feel different from one board to another, but there shouldn't be variation among those on the same board.

If it is new, and the issue is noticeable enough to annoy me, I would probably look to RMA it. Consistent click is kinda important with clicky switches!

Ive pulled off some switches, to my surprise, the area where the problematic ones are, looks moist or rather overly lubricated. Don't know if this is something that is common since it's only my 2nd mechanical keyboard (the other being mx black), but i suppose this shouldn't be normal. Already contacted the supplier and he'll be taking action.

That is definitely not right. I just got a keyboard with MX greens, and every switch clicks as it should. Sounds like you got a dud (perhaps someone's previously used return?), and good to hear the seller is willing to help.

Generally, clicky switches should not be lubricated.  It messes with the two piece stem that causes the click.

Sounds like a factory "fault". I'd return it. I'm quite surprised, actually, since KuL has a very good reputation here.

Then again, Cherry QC is lower than it used to be and they seem to be reducing the number of Blues they're trying to make. Could be related, that perhaps they're harder to make consistently when making them fast enough to try and meet demand. But that's pure speculation and doesn't seem right, since they're looked at as the modern clicky mechanical switch to the greater unwashed masses.

Yeah it seems like a factory fault to me as well. Ive read nothing but good things about KUL though. But it's definitely no spillage since the board smells brand new, the keys are all dry and there's no residue on them either, the moist texture does not seem to dry when blowing warm air at it so it mush be some kind of grease. But that's rather weird as I've never read about blue switches being greased either.
I agreed with my supplier to just keep using it throughout the weekend but I'd doubt it'll resolve itself though. But he's already put another one aside for me so I'm not too worried.
