hey guys

i got my kmac2 today and as you can see the usb port is a bit mangled. so i was trying to replace it and while doing so something distracted me and my snips slipped. long story short i ended up destroying one of the resisters... i didnt take a photo of what one it was so i have no idea what to order to resolder there.

can anyone with any knowledge that can help chime in?

its no big deal as i have one of gons pcbs in the mail to go into the housing so this is more of a practice run. but i would still like to see this work.

If you're talking about the solder pads in the red square, that spot is labelled "L1" which means it's an inductor, not a resistor.

I see a scratch that doesn't look deep enough to do any damage (no copper visible on the two traces it goes across) under the red line, leading to some empty pads marked L1.

Did you remove the leftovers of a component from those pads? I don't think you could have knocked it off that cleanly, so if you didn't remove anything I'd say it was already empty.

yes i cleaned the broken bits off and removed the solder from those two pads.

the pcb lanes are not damaged thats why i think this board is fine. i just need to get the inductor. i litterally have no idea what component i damaged.

found someone with another kmac and this is the photo he sent me. thanks to him now i have a point of comparison.

In that new photo, the component appears to be labeled with a zero. If that's the case it's not a component at all, but just a bridge between these solder pads. You could replace it with a solder bridge or a bare strand of wire.

It's not unusual to see these on circuits which have been revised or have options. Rather than revise the board, it's just easier/cheaper to bridge points with these, basically, fake components which will feed through the same machinery and just connect two points.

im still doing research. but yea. i do remember the component i destroyed was yellow and had 0000 on it... or 000 i didnt get a clear look at it before it was destroyed.

its worth a try. im exhausting all my other research options. this is at least a direction to go explore.

so after some more research and advice from ma few good folks. i bridged the gap. tactile was right on the money, it was just a bridge.

test the board all the keys work great.

unfortunatly there is still a few hurdles i need to get over. i have costar stabs... but i only tested them after i soldered down some switches. sigh. ill have to desolder them tomorrow and order some cherry stabs.

hopefully my gateron switches and nerd pcb come in the mail soon so i can start the actual assembly.
