Filco Majestouch 2 chord replace

Hey all,

Just signed up so I could get some answers on a Filco I picked up!

The keyboard was cheap as it came with no USB cord. I've done electronic fixes before so I'm thinking it's easy enough...!


Needless to say I'm posting here with a few questions about sourcing the parts I need.



I am looking for a 5 pin socket with 2mm pitch which can fit into this badboy - the white receptacle at the top





I know that the piece can be found here http://i.imgur.com/oG5Ts.png...the only problem with that is I would have to pay $20 to have 1(!!!!!!!) shipped to my house. Not a financially friendly option

I am wondering if anyone could offer any advice in where I could source these pieces without paying a lot for shipping, or possible even locally (even through surplus). I was thinking/wondering if anyone knows of common electric components that would have a receptacle like this...maybe something like a computer fan? Or even if these pieces are common in other keyboards? I am located in Toronto.

Without this piece I could de-solder the receptacle from the board but that is really a last resort.

You can get ready made cables from Pexon (in the UK) for the Filco MJ2.

Are you determined to fix it yourself? If you are that's fine but I just wanted to point out that there are cable vendors which will make you a cable specifically with the Filco end. Zeal is located in Canada so perhaps that would help you. If you wanted to go DIY, I'd PM tjcaustin or Zeal and just ask them for some help .
