Dell QuietKey RT7D5JTW Key Caps?
« on: Tue, 10 March 2015, 03:53:25 »
Didn't cared much about keyboards so I had been using the same $10 membrane keyboard for over 15 years without knowing how bad it was to type and play games on. While doing research on mechanical keyboards and cherry mx colours, this keyboard was mentioned a lot on how it was decent for a rubber dome.

Found one locally for $15 and it has been a joy to type on. However, it's missing the down arrow key cap and I can't stand it. I can't find a place or anyone who will sell me just the key cap. I'm also looking for non rounded Crtl & Alt keys if those are available somewhere because my finger keeps slipping off it while playing games.

Does anyone know a place online or can sell me just the caps?

One of the non-mechanical benefits of moving to a mechanical keyboard is (mostly) standardized keycaps. RD boards have many different proprietary keycap mounts, so replacing a single key is nearly impossible.

For a quick fix, why not just take an unused key and use it instead. I know the profile is differnet but it shouldn't be too bad.

I tried doing that and it feels awful. I've been messaging people on eBay and local classifieds all day and it seems impossible. I'm about to give this keyboard away. I'm just nit picky like that.

On a side note. I got my Cherry MX sampler from Max Keyboard today and leaning towards the brown. Looking to purchase my first mechanical when I can find the layout I want.

Yeah, you just can't please some people. Come on, it's just one key on a 104 board. That's <1%. How often do you even use the down arrow?!  ;D

Cindy (elecplus — active at DT but she's registered here too) might encounter one and be able to spare you the missing key. I have an AppleDesign keyboard with those switches, but the legend and colour won't match :)

There is an eBay seller who has those key caps for sale. I was looking to purchase all 4 key caps so they colours would watch, however it ended up being more than the key board.

I've pretty much given up at this point. It's not worth it in case something else fails. I'll use for a few weeks to get $15 worth out of it then into the trash it goes.
