Cryllic Model M's? (NOT an M, but Piccies are here)
« on: Wed, 02 September 2009, 17:26:50 »
Just a quickie... anyone ever come across a Model M (Well, it's an IBM, hard to tell from the pictures, but description is "heavy", but I can't see the signature "curve" upwards the M's have) with Cryllic lettering?

It looks very similar to the APL programmers board, in that the Cryllic lettering is printed at the bottom right in red.

If you have any pointers or information, it would be much appreciated.

There was one on eBay not too long ago.  They do show up from time-to-time, but it's one of those things that you will have to camp on eBay for awhile to find.

I've just won one on Ebay, so was wondering about it.

Will get some pics once it arrives. Was very badly listed, so it was cheap (postage was way more than the board), no other bidders.

Okay, got some pics.

It's not an M, but is described as over 2Kg. an "M Clone" mabye?

Any Idea's? I presume at that weight, it has to be mechanical. Layout is a bit weird, but I think I'll get used to that quite quickly (Assuming it's bearable to type on).

all help appreciated

By that weight and key layout (esp. with the inverted "L" Enter key), I would almost bet money that's an Alps-based keyboard.  Do you know how old it is (I might have missed it from you earlier posts)?

Aha, item 200378930889. I was going to have that but I bought a batch of 5 MX 11800s yesterday, and I have to draw the line somewhere.

Yours has an ingenious layout I think. I'm presuming that under a UK driver, the left '\' key sends a '\', and the right '\' will send a '#'. It's a clever way to make all the other keys perfect. (Big left shift, big backspace, Enter key covers all the area anyone will try to hit it.)

Yup, that's the listing. Glad you didn't decide to bid... You would have pushed me up quite a bit I suspect.

If it's Alps, I hope it's easier to use then My Wang... That's really hard to push

How did you find the listing? Errors like that virtually guarantee it's going cheap.

No Idea how old it is... not specified in the listing.

Just got a close-up filter for my camera, so I'll get some good piccies

You might just need to lube it up a bit.

I sometimes scan the keyboard category sorted by newest listings, hoping for some good buy-now bargains. I tend to look at the pictures more than the text, anything unusual tends to jump out at you. Any good non-BIN items go into my watch list.

For some reason that layout does appeal to me, I probably would have bid more than it's really worth.
