terminal model M keyboards and modern OSes

Recently I purchased an IBM model M terminal keyboard (model 1395665) I have it hooked up to my computer with an RJ45 port wired to a PS/2 end and it does work.... In GRUB, under Linux and windows it acts very odd or just plain doesn't work.... I temporarily have a PS/2 mouse and under Linux when keys are pressed on the keyboard the mouse has a fit and starts jumping all over the screen right clicking and doing all kinds of odd things... Under windows (7) this isn't the case, the keyboard shows under device manager as a standard PS/2 keyboard but nothing happens when a key is pressed

Sorry forgot to mention I'm going to be replacing the circuit board completely later I'd just like to get it somewhat working for now, soarers converter isn't what I'm going to be using or anything less than a whole new PCB, basically I'm just after temporary functionality until I can make my PCB and put it in, thanks!

Get a 1391401 controller.  (1398011 or equivalent)  Fixed.  Oh! I nearly forgot! You will also need an SDL to PS/2 cable or an SDL to USB cable.  In the meantime, use a different keyboard.  (The third link is the 1395665.)

A Soarer's converter and some cables and adapters are good to have if you are getting into the hobby, if for no other reason than you can test whatever you dredge up out of the salvage heap and use it for a bit to decide whether it is going to be something that you want to invest additional time and effort into.

PS - why is Soarer's not sticky any more?

I cleaned all the stickies from the MST forum, and combined them into my "Tools" links sticky. I would have liked to sticky everything in that post at the top of the MST forum, but it was getting a bit ridiculous with the number of stickies there.

Perhaps I should add that 5th wire to the Teensy from the AT socket, just in case!

So there isn't any special drivers I can use until I build my own PCB for it? Also soarers converter won't be used but a different solution... Mainly I was wondering if there was some sort of temp driver solution until I get parts around, etch the PCB and program everything... (Mine is going to be based off of http://mg8.org/rump/ with several modifications/additions

I already have the keyboard and Teensies just use an ATmega32 with the pins broken out and a USB port added.... I'm planning on getting (cheaper) DIP atmega32 chip and adding more features (LEDs under each key, RGB, individually controllable) for a mix between modern and retro (mainly I like the Model M for its quality other than the plastic rivet issue which I plan on doing myself as well... Getting way off topic, anyway if I MUST have a converter then I'll just wait until I have my PCB made and my parts all come in, thanks for all of the help/suggestions

I am fuzzy on the electrical part of it, but if you have a few bucks the xwhatsit controller might be helpful to you.
