Yeah, but how could I get on with a M1 after owning a Filco tenkeyless. There's just no way.

Okay, for anyone who's tried all three:

The Dell AT10xW seems too quiet.

The Focus FK-2001 is my model for what a keyboard should be, as it was my first good keyboard.

Is the M1's sound level closer to the 2001 or the AT10xW?

I listened to Patrick's sound sample, but no context=no clarity.

Already deactivated, BTW.  The $40 one is still there I think.

according to our wiki, the focus fk-2001 is a white alps board. That means it has a built-in click in addition to the botom/topping clacks (and in addition to the tactile bump).

The at101w is a black alps board. It has no click; it only has the topping/bottoming clacks and the tactile bump.

The M1 is also black alps. THough its a slightly different type of alps than found on the at101w, its behaviour will be very close to the at101w (that is: no click, only topping and bottoming clacks, and tactile bump).

So to answer your question, the M1's sound level should be closer to the at101w.  It may have slightly different acoustics but it should be closer to the at101w than the fk-2001.  That said, the topping/bottoming clacks on all of them can get loud even without any built in click.

If you're looking for a quieter alps board you can consider putting the aekII dampened-sliders into any of these boards. THose will greatly reduce the topping/bottoming clacks.

Love the agreement here.

lol.  The at101w isnt exactly quiet... esp if you're a heavy-handed typist. It can clack it up with the rest of them.

From the reviews of the m1 on this site my impression was the m1 was probably slightly louder than the at101w just because of the materials (steel plate, different plastics, different construction of the board).  But its still in the black alps class of switches.

The M1 is louder than both the FK-2001 and the AT101W.

It sure is.  That's why I ordered that AEKII.

kyamei, are you going to use all the sliders from the aekii?  If you're not, i'd be interested in splitting the cost for half the sliders ;)

Also it sounds like both you and me wound up getting mitsumis ;) If thats the case, we could salvage some of our cash and pride by going half-sies.

Thats assuming you dont need all of them though. I only need about 40 damper-sliders, since i'm only doing the swap on the main alphabet cluster.

If I like the way it turns out, I'm probably going to rubber damper the entire board.  Plan on using the M1 for games (MMOs) and some of them use F buttons and others use the number pad, so I gotta change em all.

That is of course assuming I don't end up with Mitsumis.

ya I dont blame you.  If I cant scrounge them up I'll gladly pay for another aekii. Those sliders are the bees knees.

For a keyboard that not really designed to be loud, the M1 is downright noisy.  Between the clacking and spring sound, it can definitely fill an office with the sound of work.  I would say "industrious chatter,"  but I think "senseless yakking" is more like it.
