After the $40 pre order, how long should it be before I have to pay the rest? I'm broke and I need some time to scrape up the money.  :))

Are we going to be able to see an actual prototype before we commit?

Before you commit to the full purchase, absolutely! The pre order is to help pay for the prototype so that everyone is confident they know what they're paying for!

I hope it is a nice prototype then because that's a lot of money just for a prototype. I'm sure it would be easy enough to transfer the $40 non refundable deposit to someone else though just in case.

Yeah you would be surprised how much a prototype costs with American manufacturers. I also need to pay for a PCB prototype. The pre order deposit can be transferable though as you said!

Oh I bet. But as long as we see a full prototype before footing the bill that would be great!  :thumb:

The shop quoted 6-8 weeks for he prototype. In the meantime I will work out the rest of he details so we can start the group buy soon after that barring any unexpected problems

Do you have any details on the PCB? Will it support key leds? Will it use ps2avr, Or is it going to be an arm core teensy controller? Is the USB virtual or dedicated controller (I find the virtual to be far less reliable)?

And that's just after the preorder?  Alright, I can save up with that kind of timeframe.  Selling a bunch of stuff that I don't use anymore so I'll have some money set aside for this already too  ;D  Can't wait to have my first non-production board!!

What if ergo clears can't top my topre and I'm spending $350+ when I have already hit end game. OH NO

Well, at least I don't like topre for gaming too much and this will be good... I can keep telling my self at least.

Didn't exactly mean top, more so live up. And make me not feel sad that I spent $400 on a board I might not use.

But we shall see. I'm still hyped for this, even though topre is my baby.

Ergo clear actually refers to springs from mx Browns specifically however 62g is the most popular substitute.

ooh i see. Also a question on the assembly service that will be provided for limited boards. Would we need to provide the materials (switches, leds, etc) or will they be included given that you pay for the cost of them?

If hubble / thechemist don't want to do switch tuning, I would be more than happy to help out, but I don't have many supplies anymore, but I could always get more.

This hasn't really been decided yet, however most likely we will be able to provide diodes, resistors, and stock switches. Anything else would most likely need to be sent to us. As I said though, this hasn't been decided yet.

I'm asking because I'm pretty scared of self assembly, especially on a board thats pretty expensive, yet I want this to be my end game keyboard with it customized just the way I want it. I know that this is already a huge time commitment for you so I feel bad asking for all of that. Let me know what your thoughts are on the assembly service when you decide on the final details.

Super excited to put a down payment on this, gonna be my first custom board and hopefully my last!

The preorder money is to fund the prototype since it's expensive as ****.
Think of it like Kickstarter except he isn't greasy and won't take the full 400 up front.
But from previous posts he will have a prototype before the full thing starts.

Ah, OK.  Thanks.  It doesn't actually say that in the big update in the OP.(It sort of does...)  I assumed this was a deposit with the shop for the full job... which, now that I think about it, sounds kinda stupid.

Will the plate allow for switch modding?
One of the renders appears to have the switch moddable plate while another does not.
Could you clarify?
( I apologize if this has already been answered in one of the previous posts)

Yes there will be cutouts that allow for switch modding.

To winkey or not to winkey, that's the question..

WKL is the answer.

The prototype will be winkeyless. It seems that the overwhelming majority want winkeyless, so the only option may be winkeyless in he end to reduce the cost.

I am also planning on joining the pre-order and I would much prefer winkey.

On a side note, can someone explain to me why many people prefer winkeyless? What are the advantages?

Good job on the project :) good luck having everything done.

Mostly aesthetics, I would guess. I don't believe there is a functional advantage to it, to be honest.

Would prefer a winkey and 1.25u bottom row, but a winkey 1.5u bottom row would be acceptable. No winkey (and no fn key on the right) would be a deal breaker for me, unfortunately.

Is the acrylic insert idea still in the works, or has that been abandoned (as it would seem after reading a few pages back)?

No need to worry, I talked to the CNC shop, we can offer both, however their may be a slight premium for one or the other depending on how many of each are ordered :thumb: The PCB and plate should support both bottom row configurations as well

Do we have to put in a pre-order if we don't want a numbered one? I do understand there is only going to be up to 100, but if the pre-order doesn't reach 100 can we still get one when production occurs?

Was wondering, do you guys accept Canadian Tender? Like how would this work out for someone living in Canada?

Also I would prefer winkey, but I guess I can survive without the winkey... I think...
