Hi, I'm retainerbox.

So I've been lurking and posting a little, and finally decided to introduce myself. :)



I've had my trusty Leopold FC500RT for 4 years now, and key caps are wearing and switches don't really feel like browns anymore. I am way overdue for new key caps, and potentially (most likely) a new board. I love using my full size, and will probably be replacing my daily with another full size, but am also looking to expand my collection with a 60% (or less!) for travel and whatnot.

I would love to try my hand at molding and making my own keycaps eventually, so if you have hints/suggestions on how to get started with this, that would be fabulous.

If you are interested in making your own caps, I would look in the artisan subforum, and read the threads created by binge about how to get into keycap crafting

WOO! I'm actually from Vancouver, moved out East for school, and now I'm sticking around here, despite the frigid weather.

Nice! Those switches should be fine after 4 years.. I would maybe try taking the caps off and giving it a good clean.. Maybe lubing the switches if you wanted to, or you could even switch the switches to something else if you don't like the browns!

I tried a newer keyboard, also with brown switches that feel much 'stiffer' - I can definitely feel the 'bump' more pronounced on them too. Thanks for the tip though - when I get my new board, I'll probably keep this Leopold around to play around with. ;)

That's a very well loved Leopold!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping a spare keyboard around - makes an ideal place to store a spare set of keycaps ;)
