LEDs would be a Plus and either TKL or 60% never really soldered before but was a pretty good welder .... if anyone has tips or places to buy kits or pcb, plates, case, switches, diodes, leds or controllers fill free to email me

Welcome to geek hack! There is a lot of info here when it comes to custom boards. Gon has a great reputation and is basically a one stop shop, but his lead time is pretty long. There are some upcoming group buys for custom boards as well.

Hello and welcome to GH. Like others have mentioned there are a couple of GBs coming up that are IMO worth waiting for. Many of us are waiting for DrHubblePhD's design which hopefully will be released *cough cough* soon.

There's a wealth of knowledge on guides here with many people willing to help. We're glad to have you here though. Good luck on finding your first custom. :thumb:

Welcome to Geekhack!

What you need is a notched plate, so you can remove the switch tops without resoldering.

This thread might help.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
