Custom 60% ISO HHKB Keyboard
« on: Fri, 24 April 2015, 06:28:33 »
Hi everyone!

I'm going to be using this thread to show off my progress with making a custom 60% ISO HHKB Keyboard aswell as ask question and keep track of everything.

I started with an old beat up CM Quick Fire tk that I harvested browns and a plate from.

Then I went over to http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/ and created my layout.

With that I used Swills tool to get a blueprint for the plate I needed to make.

Then I cut up the plate with a dremel to be able to move some keys around and so forth.

And this is where I am now. My next move is to get a 1,5mm aluminum sheet that I'll be using as support to make the whole thing stable when I epoxy glue it. After I've epoxied, sanded, expoxied and sanded again I'll cut out a top layer from 6mm aluminum and use some more epoxy to glue that to the switch plate and the middle layer, sand some more and then paint it. So it'll be a layered design but with the work it'll look like one solid piece except from the bottom that will be removeable. I'll handwire it and control it with a teensy 2.0.

I'll update the post with pictures at a later date if someone is interested :)

Can you link your layout? I'm curious what you mean by ISO HHKB.

It's exactly that but with a more "HHKB'esque" bottom row.

To be more precise, it's this one:

Ignore the legends though.

Made some progress today, created the layer that will support the switch plate to make the whole thing stable despite having cut up the original plate in pieces.
