Focus FK-2001 dust cover
« on: Mon, 27 April 2015, 17:36:05 »
Although it's one of the cooler features of the board IMO, there's not actually a word about the plastic dust cover on the FK-2001 on the wiki. And then I just found this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-FOCUS-2001-Mechanical-Keyboard-5-pin-DIN-AT-style-connector-/151663191760?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item234fd4a6d0

So this would appear to be one that comes with a loose plastic cover. It's a winkey model, so one of the later ones. And it doesn't appear to have any dust cover holding clips for the big brown cover. Is it fair to assume later 2001s didn't come with the brown cover, but with a cheap clear one like here? Also, are the clamps even removable on the models that do come with one?

Anyone with one or more of these know more about this? :D

That keyboard appears to be covered in a plastic sheet. The clamps just pop off of the keyboard with a bit of tugging. If you look very closely at the top right and left of the keyboard you can see the small rut that that clips would snap onto.
If you live in AZ you can try my keyboards. I usually keep plenty of different ALPS and MX and buckling springs.

Oh yes, I see what you mean. So do you think someone just had a sheet made for a 2001 or do you think that came as standard, possibly in lieu of the flat cover?

I think its an aftermarket keyboard cover. There are several companies that make them. Many are made of flexible material to allow the keyboard to be used while preventing damage from dirty hands, spills, etc.

But is it blue alps?
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Nah, it's a winkey model. I don't think there are ANY SKCM Blue keyboards that were made in the 90s. All blue boards I've ever heard of were late 80s.

Oh, so you can use these while typing? That's pretty cool. Probably hell on the keyfeel though, right?

Pretty much like you would expect....imagine your a bubble boy and the keyboard is outside your bubble.
