hanging gaterons?
« on: Mon, 04 May 2015, 09:06:37 »

Anyone using gaterons get switches that feel like they are hanging?

On occasion I have keys ( gateron blacks ) that feel like they are catching on something and I can't figure out what the issue is.

Hanging on the downstroke or upstroke?

Check this thread: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=70376.msg1696546#msg1696546

downstroke.

But thanks for that link, I'll check it out.

The switches are brand new, and all the other keyboards i've have the switches are several years old and most are well broken in.

I'll give it a week or so of typing and see if it 'breaks in' a bit, and if i'm still having trouble I'll check out for that little tab.

This is an issue that is familiar to me (as well as happy merchant, Zeal)
Here's a funny story:
Zeal was sending me some springs (and a massive pile of. Kit Kat) so I asked him if he could toss in a gateron as well so I could see what it was like.
He sent me one freaking switch and it was a defective switch which had the issue that you had.
Zeal knows about this and actually ended up desoldering his board to get rid of these faulty switches. I apparently got one out of his **** pile. I guess the one zealio switch I got from him made up for that. :p
I believe this is a problem with the stem since I noticed the issue when transferring the gateron stem I had to a basic MX housing.
Just toss the defective switches out,or at least the stems. Most of them should be fine but some do have this issue.

According to the post I linked it's a small piece of plastic on the switch top. You can fix it with slight sanding/knife/screwdriver. I have a couple that slightly hang I'm going to inspect this week.
