Issues with SA Profile Keycaps and Cherry Stabilizers?
« on: Wed, 03 June 2015, 16:51:49 »
I just received my KUL ES-87 with clears today and switched my Symbiosis keyset (Row 3 SA) over to it, and I've found that the spacebar seems to stick like mad if I push it all the way onto the stabilizers. If I keep it a little loose on one end the spacebar doesn't stick, but that means the spacebar is slightly lopsided.

A few things to note:
  • This set has worked great on my QFR (which has Costar stabilizers) since I got it
  • There appears to be no rubbing against other keys or the top case
  • The stock caps don't have an issue.

Has anyone else had issues like this?

I haven't had any major issues with my KBT Pure or GON board with PCB mounted Cherry stabilisers and all my current SA sets (Penumbra, Nuclear Data, PuLSE, Hack'd by Geeks), although the Hack'd by Geeks spacebar does feel a little "tight", like it has some slight resistance on my wife's GON.

If others have issues with the newest SA sets, could it be that they're not letting them cool enough before removing the molds due to the large number of SA sets they're making nowadays and time pressure? That could cause shrinkage issues and stems not aligning perfectly.

1976 just arrived today at the post office, so I'll report back once I've tried that spacebar.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Interesting thought. I tried the spacebar on my Das II (PCB mount Cherry) and it worked fine. So it could be a combination on factors as the KUL is plate mount, and that would eliminate all the possible horizontal wiggle room.

Another data point: I just flipped the KUL over to my DSA Hyperfuse set and no issues there either.

So it's definitely pointing to something with the combination of SA and the plate mounted Cherry stabilizers.

I put the Nuclear Data Green set on my Ducky Shine 3 recently.  I had a similar problem with the space bar.

It took a little bit of wriggling, and a few tries, but eventually I got the space bar on ok, and it seems to work well.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
