Value buy on full-size to arrive ASAP?
« on: Thu, 04 June 2015, 17:45:37 »
I'm in a sprint to finish a couple papers to maintain academic progress, and I managed to spill something on my Filco Zero, making it unusable. I don't have time to fix it, so I need another good keyboard ASAP! Please bear with me, but yes, this is another recommendation thread.

Under consideration:
Topre Realforce 104UB -- $220 from EliteKeyboards
Topre Type Heaven 104 -- $149 from MechanicalKeyboards.com, $187.50 from Amazon
Filco Fullsize Cherry Brown MX (FKBN104M/EB2), but I don't know where to buy one with fast shipping to California (unavailable on Amazon)

Those are two great examples of what I'd like. Have other ideas for a good-value full-size that I could get quickly? I can handle $150, but $220 is a bit much for me.

I'm looking for:
- With ten-keypad
- Not audible
- Tactile
- No LED backlighting and professional-looking
- Fast shipping to California
- Good value

Thank you for your help!

You're right, I should keep Das in mind. I just personally dislike piano finishes. Thanks!

You can just turn off the backlighting.

Otherwise the type heaven isn't bad.

Thought about that too, but the space bar might kill the professional looking requirement :p

This is true, but most of us would be replacing the caps anyway. :D

If I turn off the LED backlight, then the print on the keys would be oddly clear, though. I'll look into replacement caps.

Is the Topre 104UB really really nice? Life-investment nice? I like the Fukka Zero, so I think I'd really like the Topre. That pricetag is just so hard to swallow...

I just wish I had more time to do research on this. I don't like buying junk--I like things that last a long time. Kinda stressed out in general. :/

I've had my Realforce 87UB 55g for almost a year, I have to say I like it a lot. Built quality is fantastic, keycaps are quality, and it looks very clean. The feeling is great too, but hard to describe. However, I've never tried the variable weighted models, and I don't think I'd like it myself.

Let me preface this: I love my HHKBs. I own two of them.

I would stay away from Topre unless you are okay with typing on a rubber dome. I'll not mince words, the feeling of typing on a Topre is as if you were typing on a really high quality, very smooth rubber dome keyboard. Because that's what it is. Probably you already know this, but sometimes people buy Topre just because they assume it must be better, due to the higher cost.

It's decided, then. I'll take advantage of Amazon's fast shipping and excellent return policy, in case I don't like the Topre.

This will also give me the chance to try an evenly-weighted Topre keyboard--hopefully I'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the help, everyone!
