POS Style keycaps
« on: Thu, 18 June 2015, 17:09:39 »
I recently got myself a G80 8200 complete with credit card scanner and re-legendable keys. It looks awesome!

I'd like to decorate it more and make it look like an actual POS device with all the colorful keycaps that have POS legends.

Anyone know of any relatively easy to find POS systems where I can harvest these off from? Or better yet anyone have a bunch sitting around?

There's currently a listing on ebay for:

 http://www.ebay.com/itm/UTC-Credit-Card-Reader-POS-Keyboard-M631-Ultimate-Technology-Corporation-/231579597380?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35eb383a44

Except I can't tell if its cherry mx compatible or not.

PMK's Crap Bags sometimes have a random selection of POS style keycaps.

Might be somewhere to start looking.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Can't tell you if the utc has cherry switches, although the relegendable clear tops and the blocker caps do resemble the ones on e.g. tipro. However, I have three tipros with pos style caps somewhere, will see if I can find them and take a picture.

I wish I had gotten in on the grab bags! But I didn't get into mech keyboards until recently.

If you simply want a lot of relegendables, I have about a hundred of NIB Cherry caps. PM me (preferably at Deskthority) if you're interested.

IMHO, relegendable SA profile caps are simply awesome. Nice and thick with almost a jewel-like refraction through the clear plastic which covers the whole base cap:

Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.
