Remapping HHKB to make an Embedded Numpad

Hi guys,

I'm quite new here so I don't really know if this was the right subforum to put this in. Over the course of the past 3 weeks or so, I've grown increasingly obsessed with mechanical keyboards, and I now have an IBM Model M 1391401, and an HHKB Pro 2 coming in the mail today.

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do, software-side, to build an embedded numpad? I was thinking of putting it on the Alt (or Meta) layer, and having it on the 789 region. In other words, alt/meta 7 would give me numpad 7, and alt/meta U, I, O would give me numpad 4, 5, 6 respectively. I hope this makes any sense.

Is there anyway I can remap my computer to do this with the HHKB?

Certainly!

Karabiner (Document>Manual) scroll half way and it'll show number mappings.

Oh awesome! Would these work with the al/meta modifiers? This would be great for my mac, since Karabiner doesn't work on Windows.

Do you know if there's a Windows Alternative?

Hasu's controller makes me wish I would have gotten JP type-S version for the additional thumb keys.

Still happy though, my mouse is only used when gaming now

Thanks for the replies everyone I've never installed a controller on my own.

Is it difficult, and are there any potential difficulties I'll run into? In other words, how high is the risk of me turning my HHKB into a brick?

I'm guessing the benefits are great  Which means I won't have to remap the HHKB layout on every different computer I'm using, since the layout will be hardware side?

On a side note, you may notice that I'm trying to make my posts longer. Loving the feeling of typing on my HHKB right now, and I'm trying to extend the good feeling of oneness with cup rubber.

To revert the changes, just swap back in the old controller. Its plug and go! However to manually do some fancy stuff, it requires compiling the source firmware and editing map layouts.

nope, fancy stuff cant be done with a hex generator silly lol. keymapping definitely.
