hey guys
« on: Fri, 10 July 2015, 23:23:18 »
Hey everyone! So I've been here before but stopped for a while because life took over. The thing is I was posting under a different pseudonym, one which I don't really use anymore. I set up this account mostly because I didn't want to bug the mods anymore about changing my name, as I had done before. Sorry, if a mod wants to discuss this further with me please don't hesitate. I know that multiple accounts for a single user is generally not ok.

But anyway, man it's good to be back! This was the first forum I ever joined, and  I miss scrolling through the posts here. I'm also looking foreword to being able to contribute again.

The keyboards I've owned really aren't much, mostly stock logitech. One I can boast though is a Ducky Shine cherry mx browns, but for some reason it actually ended up hurting my fingers when I typed on it, so i ended up getting rid of it. I also had a recent run in with a microsoft ergonomic 4000, but several of the keys didn't work. Which is unfortunate, because I really did like the feel of that one.

I'm currently just checking out ones like the ergodox and the Model 01 which I see you guys were already talking about back last month, and I only discovered it last week... ah well. It's good to be back in the game.

Like I say, mods please don't hesitate to contact me about this or my other account.
Thanks for having me back, geekhack!

Welcome (back) to Geekhack!

Not knowing who you were before, I don't know if you were here before me.  Did you experience r00tw0rm?  We recently had another outage, but not as long, when someone DDoS'ed the site, and now have moved to a new service provider.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

hey thanks for the welcome!
No, I must've missed r00tw0rm.. what was that? The chunk of my absence was rather large, so I'm probably very far out of the loop.

r00tw0rm was, well, probably a couple of years ago now.  Late 2012 or early 2013 I think, not too long after I joined.  It took down the site, the database, and most of the backups.  Most of the wiki was lost :(  GHers migrated to a temporary home on Deskthority while GH was being rebuilt.

Woah. No I did not know about that, but I think that was pretty much around the time I dropped off the face of the geekhackiverse. It sounds  nasty, do you know what caused it?

I've heard only rumours and hearsay - rumours of banned GH members taking revenge, or of script kiddies whiling away a cold winter evening with nothing better to do than disrupt a keyboard community.

Wow sounds nasty.. and like the rabbit hole could go deep. Either way, you guys have done a great job at restoring the place, she looks great as ever :)

Thanks (not that I had much to do with it) :))

But if you look deep enough, most of the old (> 3 years) pictures are missing, and pretty much all of the original wiki.

But the wealth of information and pictures that members have posted since then has gone some way towards making up for the loss :)
