Interview with XMIT
« on: Fri, 17 July 2015, 15:09:26 »
José has graciously given up some of his time for an interview. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  It was fun learning about accumulating 600+ keyboards!

Hi! That's me! :)

Yep, I've got a whole bunch of keyboards for sale under the "Keypocalypse" sale over on DT. There is a link to a Classifieds thread here with some keyboards I'm offering. I'm trying to do a more structured rollout of keyboards over here. I've still got lots of them. It's as good an excuse as any to keep cleaning the garage.

dorkvader's actually seen the garage, not in person, but we've chatted about keyboard sales.

If you have any questions let me know and I'll answer them here! :thumb:

Kind of a long shot, but would you happen to have a working SSK membrane? The one I got in the massive group buy from Cindy unfortunately has a bad 2 key. That and hall effect space bars :P

Hmm. I have a regular membrane or two but not an SSK membrane. You can repair a membrane using silver paste. Can you start a new thread, post a photo of the damage and shoot me a PM? I've repaired a Model M membrane this way.

Nice keyboard collection :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

By the way, did you end up getting the shipping container?

I have something of a mild fascination with them ...

Haha not yet! Man those things are great. The US is a net importer of shipping containers, they come here to die. So they can be quite inexpensive! The best deals are offered on those that are just slightly deformed and thus unable to be used for maritime purposes anymore. If you look a full size one can be had for about 1500 USD. They mostly come in through the Port of Houston. They come up all the time on Craigslist here.

Didn't realize shipping containers were that cheap! No wonder people make houses out of them.

Nice interview too XD

They are a bit more expensive over here, plus for domestic use it has to be treated to remove chemicals used in industry to stop rodents or something, which usually adds to the cost.

A clean one goes for around AUD$3000.

I wonder if we need a "post your shipping container" thread :))
