Ergodoxian ?
« on: Wed, 22 July 2015, 12:29:05 »
Hi,

IMO the Granite Ergodoxian option was an excellent idea (even if you don't want all the keys); it was very affordable. (see: http://www.pimpmykeyboard.com/deals/granite-ergodoxian/ );

My question is: why isn't this a standard option on most sets?  To my knowledge there aren't any other sets even offering this option.

Switching out Ergodox modifiers is a great and easy way to change the look of your keyboard without changing all the keys. I've wasted a lot of money buying sets to just get modifiers. I would buy several other sets if they were available.

Any opinions about this?

Also, this is my first post.

 The ergodox is still sorta a niche keyboard. Yes, I'm typing on one now, using a mix of five keysets to get enough 1.5x keys but not that many people have one, compared to how many have a keyboard. Also, "custom keycap sets" is a bit of a niche. And there isn't a firm overlap between the two camps, so of all the small-thousands of kits Massdrop has sold, I imagine 90% of those who've assembled their kits just use the blanks they got with them, thinking they were tempting fate enough to get a weird keyboard.

Getting weird keycaps on your weird keyboard? That's ... weird.

Also, welcome to GH. Hang on to your wallet. Or get some aspirin, y'know, whichever.

PMK sells DSA Ergodox blanks, but it doesn't make sense for most group buys. Ergodox mods almost never tip the MOQ. Right now I'm typing on a Dox with Vortex Doubleshots on the alphas and SP DSA blanks for the mods. I think it's the best solution we have now.

Yes, that makes sense. Thanks for replies! I still like the idea of standardizing a group of modifiers for group buys--printed caps great IMO. Maybe it will catch on!
