Have I been out of the loop too long to notice that the DAS has been revamped with a new controller?

Ah, this is different to the other new one with multimedia functions. Could well include fixes for the transposition issue etc., but time will tell.

I was reading this thread thinking there was another thread already on this topic.  I then realized it was this one: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=7357.  Reading back through it, only about 2 posts had anything to do with the fact that Metadot appears to have fixed some of the problems with the original Das III.  That said, carry on.

The Wired article referred to in that thread made no mention of any major change - it fact apart from the photo showing mulitimedia functions I think they just reprinted the original DasIII review.

In their photo gallery, Metadot chooses to show the Cherry black stem switch as an example of the keyswitches in the Das Keyboard.  I sincerely doubt they've switched to black.

Maybe they have, so that the controller issue is less likely to pop up because people don't type as well on linear switches.

But in the other review, it says it has FULL n-key rollover via PS/2.

Pretty much the Das III is finally catching up with FILCO. The only real difference between them now are:

Das pros:
Gold plated connectors
USB hub
Free shipping (otherwise equivalent pricing)

FILCO pro:
Matte

I think I'd still prefer the FILCO.

I'd love a USB hub in a keyboard which lacked other crippling flaws.  I have a tablet I don't often use; its cable is a bit short for anything but a keyboard-mounted hub.

Just be careful of the power draw.  The specs on the site say that if the USB peripherals plugged into the hub start to draw too much power, the hub firmware will disable one of the ports to make sure there's enough for the other.

They market the Das as a "clicky" keyboard, so I'm still guessing the picture of the black-stem Cherry is a mistake.  I think it was reasonable for them to assume that 99% of their customer base wouldn't know the difference.
