Does a Realforce 104 55g exist?
« on: Wed, 05 August 2015, 09:35:07 »
Like the title says, does a 104 version of the uniform 55g weighted Realforce exist?

I've done a search and there are old references to a 103 version which now seems to be unavailable.

It's either get a TKL and hunt down a decent numpad, or just get a full size and not angst over the wider footprint. I'm inclined to the latter if possible.

As far as Ive ever seen there are no 104-key 55g boards.

Realforce EK45 (Silenced)  |  Realforce 87UW (45g)  |  Realforce 87UWS (Variable)
Filco MJ2 TKL (Cherry Clears)  |  Phantom 87 (78g Gateron Clears)  |  Phantom 86 (67g Zealios)

You would have to mod one yourself, but you'd need 2 87U 55g's to get the requisite number of domes, making it a really expensive proposition, although some of it could be mitigated by selling the resulting 45g/hybrid 45/55g 87Us

http://deskthority.net/wiki/Topre_Realforce#Realforce_Model_Reference

Realforce 103UB 55g (SE02C0) : You probably wouldn't want this anyway.  Lower row will be incompatible with later 104 sets / PBT spacebar.
Realforce 104UB 55g (XF11K0) : Limited edition specific to South Korea.  I begged Brian @ EK many times to import but no go.

Get a Royal Kludge RC930-104 55g.  80% [of the best part of Topre] @ 50% of the price.

Along with other such nice features as:

+ Smooth factory lubed costar wire stabilizers. [I find the stabilizers in the Realforce extremely unrefined for a $200+ "Made in Japan" product.]
+ Dampened switches.
+ Cherry MX keycap compatibility.
+ An additional channel to route your cable down the center.
+ RGB option.
+ Programmable.

Hmm... that's opened up a possibility! Do you have the non-RGB version and if so could you confirm that your caps look similar to what's posted up in this thread? They seem much more workplace-acceptable than the RGB caps, and I am not a fan of LEDs either. I've found the board on Bangood, but they photo is for a TKL so not terribly reliable. And the caps are listed as ABS instead of POM. Weird.

Dampened Topre (I was going to mod), 104, 55g and readable caps (i.e. the black Realforce caps are not appealing) pretty much tick all of my boxes. The only outstanding 'want' which I haven't mentioned is 1800 layout, but that simply isn't going to happen at all with Topre!

Hmm... yeah, this board is really, really appealing at the moment.

The backlit are ABS while the non-backlit are POM.  And yes the POM caps look very professional.

I was looking for one of these recently too and only found a few references after quite a bit of searching and certainly nowhere to buy one...

The 104U 55g existed for a brief time.  The only videos I can find are from three years ago:

I'm sure if MassDrop spoke with Topre and had a 100 keyboard minimum MOQ they could meet it.
