Would you want to add an ISO kit?

TBH I'm not an ISO guy so I'm not even sure what more that would require. I would be willing to list it as a child pack, but I wouldn't have high expectations for it to tip, since so far nobody has brought it up in this IC. I also don't know if SP has all the legends cut in the Cherry-replica set that you would need. If not we would need to furnish artwork files and an additional $45 per legend.

With that said, are you willing to mock something up for me to send to SP? I'm sure they can get me pricing.

Two keys. Honestly, I don't think it would add anything to the final cost.

ISO enter + 1,25u shift is needed.

Don't you also need the little 1U key that sits next to the short right shift? Or are you just planning to use one of the extra R4 1U keys?

I will not add it to the base set for a few reasons, mainly I've already received final pricing from SP for what's pictured; nobody has expressed interest in ISO for this set, until now; and I'm not sure an SP Alps ISO enter without stabilizers to match would even be useful. But I will pursue it as a child pack if you want.

Those couple of keys for ISO users might be useful to BlueNalgene's Alps Party 3, since I believe he will be offering ISO plates as well.

This is a really good point that I hadn't considered. But as I said, I've already gotten pricing from SP and I've actually already got the GB thread written and awaiting moderation.

Do you think an add-on pack makes sense?

Not unless it was part of a bigger add-on pack. I don't think enough people would buy the 2 ISO keys that it would make MOQ.

It might not have to make MOQ. Like I can just make a "faux" MOQ at, say 10 units, and just take the price for 25 packs, divided by 10, and that's your price at the 10 MOQ.

Where were you ISO people this whole time? I guess I can't really complain, as this has been a relatively short IC.

I'm going to ask SP for pricing with the two ISO keys.

What color should the ISO Enter key be, blue or gray? Also, if they don't already have a cherry legend for the ISO Enter are we ok with a blank?

Are you sure the Enter and short left shift are all you need for ISO? I see some sets also include a 1U row 4 backslash/pipe, and a row 3 hash/tilde. Are these necessary? Note that this buy will include a la carte 1U blanks in each color and row profile.

Also remember today Alps ISO is all kinds of ****y and inconsistent with stabilizer placement.  Unless you make an SP specific plate and PCB, odds are it won't work.

Ugh this is my big hesitation about it. People are asking for ISO, so let's say I add it and increase the price of the set, then when the GB comes around they say, "I'll have to pass. I'm saddened that your ISO enter doesn't work with the stabs on my Alps 60% that I bought via TOR from the Chinese black market."

Gray. Cherry legend would be fine, like in this Dell At102W -> http://i.imgur.com/guCl7.jpg. Simple, clean. If not, blank is fine with me.

Probably whoever designs the plate can adapt the stabilizer holes to whatever is available from SP.

This would be the ideal thing. I'm in touch with BlueNalgene and he's confident that the ISO plates from his buy will work with SP ISO caps, but may require custom wires to be bent to fit the Cherry stab inserts. This is not a hard mod and it can be done by anyone with a pair of pliers.

Gray? Are you sure? The other modifiers are all blue. I'm looking at other ISO sets and they all make the Enter key the same color as the modifiers, unless they offer one of each (which I'm definitely not going to do).

After some looking around, it looks like the set would need four additional keys to support ISO: the Enter key, short left shift, a row 3 1U whose legend seems different in every example (I would leave it blank), and a row 4 1U backslash/tilde. Here is a mockup with those four keys included (far right):

And an ISO layout mockup:

Would this suit everyone's needs? Again, I would leave the Enter key blank if SP doesn't already have the legend cut, unless some ISO fan wants to sponsor it for $45.

Since the KBP v60 uses a standard ANSI layout, you can be sure Alpine Winter will support it, including options for color symmetry and alternate key positions (Control/CAPS, etc).

I definitely had the Infinity Modifier pack and Alpine Winter in mind when I chose the colors for this board, so I hope Alpine Winter comes through! Njbair's idea of mixing the sets together is definitely something I plan on.

Oh, it will go through. Especially with Alps Party 3-60(%) going on at around the same time, the recent batch of KBP v60 Matias Mini's that just recently shipped from Massdrop, and unprecedented layout support. I'm hoping to break the 100 MOQ.

It occurs to me, Alpine Winter will provide broader 60% compatibility than any MX set to date.

What color should the ISO Enter key be, blue or gray? Also, if they don't already have a cherry legend for the ISO Enter are we ok with a blank?.
Gray. Cherry legend would be fine, like in this Dell At102W -> http://i.imgur.com/guCl7.jpg. Simple, clean. If not, blank is fine with me.

Show Image

And an ISO layout mockup:

Show Image

Would this suit everyone's needs? Again, I would leave the Enter key blank if SP doesn't already have the legend cut, unless some ISO fan wants to sponsor it for $45.

My mistake. The mockup looks great!

Good news, euro-folks. I just received confirmation from SP that the ISO keys are all available using existing legends, and the price difference to add ISO support is pretty reasonable. So we will be adding ISO to the set--I'll update the mockup in the OP tomorrow when I get into work.

In other news, I'm working out some final behind-the-scenes details and then this buy will be ready to launch!

AEKII spacebar? Woohoo! :p

I'm definitely in for this - if nothing else just to get a few spare spacebars.
The Alps cover 65% of Switzerland's surface area (41,285 kmē), making it one of the most alpine countries. Despite the fact that Switzerland covers only 14% of the Alps total area (192,753 kmē),[2][3] many alpine four-thousanders (48 of 82) are located in the Swiss Alps and practically all of the remaining few are within 20 km of the country's border.

God dammit, we need some nice black blanks or black on black Dyesubs for Alps, which will never exist.
Why don't want anyone such a set, like the blackout one Ivan made? That would be so nice with a black aluminum case or the stock black poker case!
Always colors and Doubleshots...  :(
We have too few options with Dyesubs for Alps...

But as a student I don't want to risk anything, as I don't know how complicated it is to handle such a group buy.  ;)

You can already get blank ABS from Matias. And he says he will have PBT blank / dyesub ready sometime around the end of this year (or maybe later...)

Don't say then will never exist. Matias has PBT-dyesubs in the works. Maybe he can make those sweet black on black dyesubs for us ;D

hmm, in my experience DCS is rather thin.  i skimmed through the thread but didn't see this brought up, but I'm assuming GMK can't do ALPs switch mounts?

and also wondering if SP can do SA w/ ALPs mount.  was DCS chosen because of the wait time on SA keysets?  do we know what the wait time is for DCS

will buy into this right away, even though I'm still waiting on my first ALPs board.

Not sure if SP does SA, but I'm not sure Alps users and SA users overlap all that much.

GMK doesn't do Alps, and even if they did their MOQ is 250 sets. Alps are not yet that popular.

The only profiles they have Alps mounts for are DCS and DSA. Of the two DCS is definitely the better choice.

Good to know.

Maybe some day we can run an Alps DSA Granite buy or something. But at this point there's a lot of demand for Cherry-ish profile in the 60% form factor.

Yes. I got the Granite set for my Novatouch. The set looks great and I like the feel of PBT. Unfortunately, I found that I have trouble typing on the spherical tops and flat DSA profile. I think that the flat DSA profile is the main issue for me. Therefore, I would prefer the DCS or SA sculpted profile over a flat profile such as DSA. Even some of the SA profile sets have been modifed to be all-Row 3 profile.

So...silly question: any reason we can't get these caps (not blanks) in PBT instead of ABS? I know I'd be willing to throw down the extra $$ for PBT.

Regarding PBT, it's a non-option. If looks weren't a factor, I would have much preferred to go cheaper on some dyesub PBTs but I want Alpine Winter to be something really special.
