Centered Legends Keysets
« on: Mon, 31 August 2015, 22:58:52 »
Is there another family of keysets with Centered Legends like the DSA Dolch?

I really like the DSA Dolch set because of the centered legends and the font but I'm iffy about the quality.

Is there anything else that's similar?

SA sets also have centered legends, but I am not sure if that is what you are looking for.

Actually yeah I've seen those around too. How are SA ABS? I never thought to consider them too strongly.. I guess I would love to find some centered GMKs or any half decent PBTs

SA profile ABS are my favourite keycaps. I have dyesub PBT Cherry profile (from Gateron, Ivan's black on black sets.... four of them :) ), GMK Cherry profile, DCS profile, but the SA doubleshot sets are the best. Really thick and heavy, nice quality centred doubleshot legends (with large letters) and some great colour schemes in the latest GB's. I don't like the feel of DSA. The small keytops combined with the matte surface don't feel right to me.

SA are usually semi-matte (which is smooth, but not shiny), although they wear pretty quickly to a shine if you use them a lot. Strangely enough, shiny SA feel somehow right, unlike shiny DCS.

There are 3 main profile groupings with SA sets: All Row 3 which is "flat" like DSA, 3-1-2-3-4-3 like PuLSE SA, etc. and 1-1-2-3-4-4 like Jukebox, etc, although all of them have Row 3 Shift keys (we're trying to persuade SP to make Row 4 Shift molds, but it's taking some time).

The set that's spent the most time on my boards is Penumbra (http://keypuller.com/penumbra-sa/), with Hack'd by Geeks second (nice pics on this page: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=67446.900). Then PuLSE SA (http://keypuller.com/pulse/), then 1976 (http://keypuller.com/ninteenseventysix/) and then Nuclear Data Green (http://keypuller.com/nuclear-data/). I have also ordered Jukebox, Retro SA and Carbon... ahem... I will order Skull Squadron SA if and when Matt3o creates it. So I'm a bit of an SA addict.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

SA is the best Centered (also acceptable fonts, DSA sucks tho, randomised font-sizes all over the place)

I was also obsessed with Centered legends like you when I first started, decided to abandon it to be able to use GMK Keycaps, and I'm glad I did, cornered legends seem more appealing now, they are definitely more elegant with sculptured keycaps

If you want Centered elegance, SA seems like the only choice

The more I look at SA, the more I like it. I like both the centered legends and the fonts on all modifiers. I like that retro look. The centered legends also remind me of my old Apple II which was the first computer I've used (although I was too young to know what I was really doing with it).

There seems to be very very very few ways to get SA double-shot caps.. Do I just have to wait until another GB appears somewhere? =S

1. Check in the classifieds
2. post a WTB thread in classifieds
3. check reddit, deskthority, massdrop and GH for polls, interest checks and group buys for sets.

It's currently a very popular profile for Group Buys at the interest check stage. See Midnight Rose, Danger Zone, Dusk, Hosho, Classic Space, Cospar, RetroBlight, Modern Selectric Round 2, Penumbra Round 2, Skull Squadron SA. It may take a while for some of these to move to the Group Buy stage, but most of them should get there.

It's a pity you just missed Retro SA, Carbon and Jukebox.
