Geekhack App
« on: Thu, 03 September 2015, 11:27:56 »
Has anyone considered making an app for the site? The mobile site is decent, but I think browsing could be much improved with an app. What do you guys think?

The app tapatalk can be used to access the forum. I know its on the app store, not sure about google store, or the other mobile application stores.

I tried Tapatalk (iPad) with Geekhack and didn't really like it. I can't quite browse the site/topics as I would like. Haven't tried on other devices...I would like to think I'm doing something wrong.

I'm not really sure how a dedicated app would improve things. Maybe more time spent refining a mobile view would do it. Or just use a forum app, like tapatalk.

All we need is a mobile theme for the SMF. Is there one?

The newer versions of tapatalk suck and I run an older version.

I really like it, easily see participated threads and the timeline which is like the spy feature.

Which is just as bad, and don't Apple force anyone who has an app on iOS to use essentially the same rendering tools etc as Safari anyway?

what i dislike about it is, any email or app that has a link automatically opens it with safari.

I use Tapatalk but I wish I didn't have to, with each update it just gets worse and worse.

I'd write one myself but it would be Android only and would probably take a fair while.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

When I tried to switch to it, it seemed to be less stable and slower than Safari, so I went back. But safari is still awful.

And it only cost $20. I can pay for that if the mod/admin agrees to adopt!

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
