[Edited 1x] How do I look for keycaps? Where can I find them?
« on: Sat, 26 September 2015, 15:48:52 »
How do I look for keycaps? I'm specifically looking for black, blank, and PBT keycaps.
61 1x1
3  1.25x1
2  2x1
1  6.25x1

Edit: Sorry. I posted in the wrong sub forum. How do I move this?

Edit: Okay. On top of what I said above, I also want contoured keys.
I want to buy both Cylindrical and Spherical to try them both out.

I'm not just looking for links directly to buy keycaps. I want to learn how to look for them myself. How do I look for keycaps? Where can I find them?

I'm assuming you're looking for Cherry MX mount caps? Which profile are you looking for?

If you're okay with DSA profile you can get some at Pimp My Keyboard.

What other profiles are there? I don't know what this means.

Oh you have only brushed the surface of mechanical keyboards.

Signature Plastics main website can shed some light on your question. There are a lot of profiles but the most common you'll across are:

OEM (most keyboards come with this profile of keycap)
DCS (almost the same as OEM but lower profile)
SA (tall flat profile)
DSA (short flat profile)

You also have different switch types but Cherry MX are the most common for beginners.

Check these references, you would prepare a cup of coffee, have a seat in a comfortable couch and enjoy 12 hours of careful reading.

It might also depend if you want a full matching set, or just any random profile keycaps of the nominated sizes.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Just get one of these and end your suffering: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=72609.0

Edit: Just saw the edit, you look for keycaps by stalking GH, GH GB's, GH classifieds, Reddit, mechmarket, by periodically and maniacally checking vendor websites etc.
