UNCE UNCE UNCE UNCE
« on: Fri, 02 October 2015, 21:37:49 »
So hey there GH, I'm Prezz! Long time computer geek, extremely new mech geek but already an addict. I have been lurking the forums so hard over the last week or so and wanted to wait to make this post on my new to me 2nd hand Ducky Shine Mini v2 that was on the way! Oh my god do I love cherry mx browns. I had originally only had the opportunity to type on reds and razer greens prior to my purchase, and look forward to getting my fingers on some clears, blues, and possibly some non mx in the future.

Finding this place has been an amazing adventure I cant wait to continue. I have gone from not knowing anything about keyboards, to obsessed in no time at all. I had no idea that I would love something like keyboards so much. One of the things that really made my jaw drop are the artisan keycaps floating around. I am so impressed with the art that is being made in this place, it has inspired me. I have been religiously checking and refreshing trying to score my first sale, hoping for some mx gamers  to pop my cherry as my main use for my keyboard is weening myself off of my Nostromo for Dota 2 purposes.

I started this adventure because i will be purchasing and assembling a new computer here in about a week, and finally decided to step up my peripheral game. I hope to continue it as a valued member here as I have moved away from most my other forum addictions.

I am very interested in trying my hand at cap making for funsies as Ive been looking for a reason to get into molding and casting. I have so much more combing through the forums to find out where to start but wanted to give a great big ole thanks to all that ALL of you have shared with the world here in this wonderful place.

Thanks for having me, and if you ever need anything GH, feel free to ask.

Welcome to Geekhack!

It's a revelation going from not really noticing the keyboard in front of you, to finding out just how much there is to learn about them.

Making stuff together is a good place for general information about making all sorts of things, including keycaps.

And Binge's sub-forum is here, where there are several threads where he describes the keycap making process he uses.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
