A big hello to all, hailing from Portugal, land of the poor and "living above your possibilities". Jokes aside, I'm relatively new to the whole mechanical keyboard scene and I'll be balancing the interest on this, with the wallethack issue. But since my wallet is small, I doubt it'll be hard to contain myself. Also, I'll be having the huge headache of trying to get key caps and keyboards in ISO... So yeah, already got my aspirine ready for that.

Currently have a G80-3000 UK ISO with MX Blue (that was my starting point, second handm cheap enough), and have bought a Turtle Beach Impact 500 recently. Goal will be to personalize them, and probably get an MX Clear keyboard to type on the job (hope it's silent enough).

Welcome to geekhack!

I find MX clears to be a bit quieter than blues, but they aren't quite as silent as say maybe a linear switch (if you don't bottom out), or Topre. They are very nice though, and would be suitable for work.

Thanks man, but I can't let go of the tactile feedback. I've tried blacks on a full keyboard, and some red switches, and quite frankly, linear is not my thing. Plus, I'm in love with blues, so the clears are probably my best bet right now.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with secondhand keyboards!  This HHKB I am using is secondhand, and apart from a little shine on the space bar (rectified by replacing it with one of matt3o's PBT space bars) it is in perfect condition.  The only thing I'm missing is the box, but on the scale of things it is unimportant.

All of my buckling spring keyboards are also used - that's a good option to try a different switch with a classic layout.  Sometimes you can find the older keyboards for a very reasonable price.  With a little bit of cleaning most are good to go for another few years :)

Well, I've been using the G80 for quite a few months and I can only say good things about him. Never cared if something is second or third hand, as long as it works properly. And boy, does this boy work well with me  :)) Only lacks some personalization now, which I'm trying to take care of. The one issue I have is that I'm too used to ISO keyboards, which makes personalization a bit... tricky. And more expensive. But that's why I'm taking it slow, so I don't fall into a hackwallet problem.

It certainly does make it more difficult with ISO, although more group buys are catering for different ISO layouts.

If you see a group buy you like, make sure you get in early and request support for your favourite ISO variant!

I'll remember that, I've seen a few posts that lubbing also helps on reducing noise in some situations, so I was already considering it.
