« on: Sun, 18 October 2015, 13:25:47 »
Came across this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Filco-Zero-87-Tenkeyless-Keyboard-Very-Rare-Green-Alps-Switches-/252129303178?hash=item3ab413da8a:g:ZM4AAOSwYHxWIh1m&autorefresh=true

Looks like someone swapped some legit green alps from something like a Zenith. Asking $285

Really cool board. I've never seen that colorway. Price is a bit much though.

I think that is amazing and the price is very reasonable, considering that it is absolutely one-of-a-kind.

But dat price

So, a Filco Zero and an original Alps green keyboard are worth less than $100 each, shipped, and the labor and (international) shipping is worth less than $85?

Are you ****ing out of your mind?

Whoa Whoa.  Calm down.

I was just meaning that they price is too high for me right now at this point in time.  Not that it's a extremely bad deal.

Green complicated Alps feel really nice, and this is a very cool looking board. But they ping like CRAZY.

What pings like crazy? Green Alps or the Filco Zero? Because I have a Filco Zero and I find it to be very pingy, but I would think linear switches would help with that quite a bit.

Sorry for the confusion. Green Alps. I have used them in a Zenith board and in a Kingsaver, and the amount of ping/echo is really crazy. If the Filco Zero already tends to ping, I would imagine that Green Alps would even further exacerbate the problem.

I've got SKCM Green Alps in my Zero. It's not too bad but it is pingy. Actually, I found it was worse in my Kingsaver because the metal allowed the vibrations and sound to resonate. The plastic Filco case dampens the ping.

The interesting thing about the keyboard in the auction, besides having green Alps switches, is that it has the white Filco case, instead of the black, and it has laser etched keycaps (almost certainly from a Dell AT101W). Someone built this up the way they really wanted it, and it's far from a stock Zero.

I had been suggesting to KBParadise for quite a while now that there could be interest in some switchless V60MTS/V80MTS PCB's (controller/etc already soldered).

This way you don't have to spend time desoldering all the switches and possibly mucking up the PCB.  If interested please send them email!

That would  be cool.

Really wish they'd offer the V80's and V60's in off white,  or beige colored cases.

Seems so strange that they put so much effort and money I and then went for just about the cheapest, probably ugliest keycaps on the Alps market Oo .

Strange indeed. The very thick dyesub PBT keycaps on my Zenith make all the difference for SKCL Green ALPS.

Wonder who bought it.

Anyone know of a good source for Black Doubleshot ANSI Alps caps?  I didn't win this board, but it seems that there aren't a whole lot of good Alps donor boards for non-beige caps, so if I built it, I might have ended up going with the same caps this guy did until I found something better.

those keys are nice indeed!
(at least, i presume the caps of the 100-1860 are the same as the 100-1886 that i have..)
i did notice that the lock-caps are doubleshot ABS. at least, i presume they are ABS because those keys on mine seem to have yellowed. they're not the same grey as the other grey keys, you can see here:

What Zenith is that? I didn't know some had PBT caps Oo .

Also, I think it's pretty criminal to chop up a Zenith, especially to then put it in a Filco. Zenith boards look pretty nice IMO, especially the ZKB-2. The logo is also gorgeous, probably the best-looking ever put on a keyboard (IMO). Pretty stark contrast to the bland Filco styling and their extremely uninspired logo.

his signature says zenith 100-1860.
my 100-1886 also has pbt caps.

both boards have also been made with ABS keys. my guess is that those are the 1860-2 and 1886-2.
it looks like the 1886-2 has 5 screws in the bottom plate, while the 1886 has only 4 screws.

some came with yellow ALPS, some with green ones. (i guess that the ABS versions always came with Yellow alps, and the PBT versions with Greens..)
this thread shows a 1886-2 board with ABS caps and yellow alps.
the spacebar of the 1886-2 apparently uses Grey, while the spacebar of my 1886 uses Cream (i think).
hard to confirm my presumptions, though. i just collected some information from a few threads and a few ebay listings :D

anyway, didn't some ZKB2 come with PBT as well? maybe i'm wrong, but i think i remember seeing a picture where only the spacebar was yellowed..

edit: here's one with a plate with 5 screws in the bottom plate, that has green alps. so i was obviously wrong about that bit.

The Z-150 keyboard in that topic also has ABS caps, and green Alps. The video in that thread shows a Z-200 / Z-248 keyboard with ABS caps with greens, too. I can't find any PBT ones with yellows, though. I suspect they started off with greens and PBT caps and then transitioned to ABS with greens and then ABS with yellows. The ZKB-2 probably arrived in the middle because I can't find any trace of a ZKB-2 with a yellow spacebar (although there are several pictures with ZKB-2's with ALL caps extremely white, but that could be a coincidence).

It's also the first time I've seen one of those 84-key Zeniths with a label on the back. Others I've seen so far very specifically don't appear to have any trace of a label at all. It's strange that it appears to have TWO model names though, Z-150 and 100-1886-2 Oo .
